Under minimal supervision, performs duties related to the scheduling of surgical cases and prints various reports for distribution, including the daily surgical schedule. Prepares posts and processes patient charges. Assists RN (Charge Nurse or Coordinator) in facilitating the surgery schedule and coordinates activities at the OR control desk.

Job Type: Full Time (72 hours every two weeks)

Shift Length: 8/10/12 hour shifts (will vary)

Wage Range: $18.26-$27.89

Education Requirements:

-High school diploma/GED, or higher education

Clerical:

  • Participates in maintaining a confidential, safe, patient-focused office.

  • Communicates well with clinical staff, Physician offices, and external customers as well as with the multi-disciplinary team of providers.

  • Efficiently manages the scheduling of multiple procedures requests by multiple providers to multiple areas.

  • Ensures that all details are covered to ensure a smooth process for patients and their families. Maintains an organized work environment and remains efficient with multiple interruptions. Proficient with OR Information/Scheduling system.

  • Maintains appropriate knowledge of existing surgical systems and software needed to support Surgical Services.

  • Stays current with new procedures and preference cards associated with the procedures.

  • Coordinates daily and future surgery schedules for multiple areas (Surgery Center, Endoscopy, Main OR).

  • Communicates changes to Physicians, staff, and appropriate support departments.

  • Updates and reviews projected surgery schedule to facilitate case sequence and maximize utilization of OR resources/time.

  • Maintains professional and courteous demeanor during all phone and face to face interactions with providers and other members of the healthcare team.

Practice Care Coordination:

  • Communicates all pertinent aspects of patient surgery to other members of the healthcare team including surgeons, physician's assistants, medical assistants, clinical staff and implant representatives.

  • Communicates visit date, time and reason with clinical staff.

  • Provide clinical staff with complete and accurate information related to each surgery patient to ensure that incoming patient inquiries can be addressed completely and accurately with no delay. Communicate pertinent case information to other departments including pre-admission testing, radiology, laboratory and surgery.

Surgery Coordination:

  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments in pre-admission testing and total joint class.

  • Communicate with PAT team members and supply all necessary medical information to insure accurate pre-surgical preparation.

  • Verifies procedure is correct for Surgical Consent.

Changes:

  • Enters correct implants for charging purposes.
  • Runs reports and verifies all charges are correct.
  • Follows up with clinical staff on charging errors.

Control Desk:

  • Facilitates the daily surgery schedule with the Charge Nurse and Charge Anesthesia Provider.

  • Contacts Surgeons/Offices/other departments with any changes to the daily schedule.

  • Coordinates all daily activities at the Control Desk.
