Summary

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for the prevention, recognition, and treatment of on-the-job illness and injuries. This position requires skills and knowledge in health and safety education, counseling, environmental health, safety, rehabilitation, and human relations. 

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a resource on health matters, reviewing such items as physicians' reports on employee health, workers' compensation insurance claims, medical restrictions on employee work, and the policies and procedures for employee wellness programs
  • Provide first aid and assist employees who are injured or become ill at work
  • Document, investigate, and manage work-related injuries and illnesses, including Workers’ Compensation claims
  • Manage return to work approval process
  • Maintain, sustain, and ensure compliance with select Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) standards
  • Develop and implement health promotion programs such as ergonomics, health fairs, awareness campaigns, on-site flu shots, blood drives, exercise, healthy eating programs, etc.
  • Perform pre-employment health screening and drug screening processes
  • Develop professional relationships with local occupational clinics and collaborate with other Health Care Providers to support the worker through the recovery process
  • Participate in applicable safety meetings and investigations
  • Maintain medical supplies inventory and inspection
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the EHS Team or Nurse Sr. Specialist

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required  
    • MA or NA Preferred
  • Current registered nursing license in the state of Michigan
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish or English/Korean preferred 

Experience:

  • 1 -3 years of occupational health or critical care nursing experience preferred 
  • Occupational health and safety experience and OSHA training in a manufacturing environment is desired
  • Prior experience with Michigan Worker's Compensation case management and claims management desired
  • Experience as a trainer for health and safety topics such as First Aid/CPR, Blood borne Pathogens is preferred

Skills:

  • Knowledge of state and federal laws related to Worker’s Compensation, and legislation regarding confidentiality
  • Excellent written communication skills and will be expected to document decisions, agreements, and orders created
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite or related software
  • Communicate effectively with employees, physicians/medical professionals, and other outside parties
  • Analyze and make sound judgments to accurately document and maintain appropriate confidentiality of medical records
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support production team and off-hour emergencies
