Summary/Objective
Uses programming software to program jobs on an assortment of machines and equipment such as: Thermal Cutting Equipment, Laser Marking Equipment and Bed-Style Routers.Ā  Also uses CAD equipment to provide support to engineers by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches and diagrams. Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for manufacture. Makes copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes to database. Makes simple decisions but refers most questions/problems to engineers or supervisor.Ā 


Essential Functions

  1. Responsible for 2D and other machine programming including but not limited to: bed-style thermal cutting equipment, bed router, brake and hydraulic presses, and laser marking equipment.
  2. Work directly with the machines and operators to identify opportunities for improvement.
  3. Uses computer assisted design/drafting (CREO and AutoCAD) equipment and software to develop designs.
  4. Creates and revises production drawings (detail and assembly drawings).
  5. Makes final sketch of proposed drawing, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
  6. Drafts detailed multi-view drawings of machine and products.
  7. Updates Drafting and Engineering Standards.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, on some instances this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the ā€œcoreā€ work hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.

Required Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma
  2. Associate degree in computer aided drafting and/or equivalent experience and training
  3. Strong mechanical design aptitude
  4. Strong literacy with Microsoft Office Suite
  5. Interpersonal and mechanical aptitude necessary to deal effectively with a variety of departments

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Production experience, running machines or supervision
  2. Pro/E modeling and detailing experience
  3. MTConnect
  4. CREO and AutoCAD
  5. Familiar with current GD&T standards
