JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective 

The Weld Engineer is responsible for oversight of Welders, Laser Operators, Die Setters, and Tooling Support. As a working supervisor, this position will be required to work on tasks within the department regularly. This role will also aide in creation, documentation, and implementation of improvement procedures that will allow the company to run more efficiently and safely.  


Essential Functions

1.    Manage department workflow and address any employee concerns. 

2.    Train and monitor new and existing employees.

3.    Select proper set-ups for welding operations for a team of welders.

4.    Perform typical MIG and TIG welding operations per prints

5.    Perform prescribed maintenance as required.

6.    Perform all dimensional inspections.

7.    Manage tooling organization and maintain relationship with tooling vendors.

8.    Oversees employee schedules and issues for direct reports.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position supervises a team of fabricators and supporting members. 


Required Education and Experience

1.    Three to five years of progressive experience and responsibility in MIG and TIG welding and leadership in a manufacturing setting.

2.    Ability to read/understand blueprints and GD&T 

3.    Familiarity with bed-style cutting, presses, robotic welding, and saws

4.    Raw material handling 

5.    Experience in a leadership role


Preferred Education and Experience

1.    Bachelor’s Weld Engineering or related field.


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items weighing 50 pounds.
