Job DetailsJob Location: Garvey Manor - HOLLIDAYSBURG, PA 16648Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolJob Shift: AnyJob Category: Health Care  POSITION SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Assistant Dietary Manager will be to assist with all areas of the Dietary Department ensuring a smooth quality operation and proper service to all residence. The Assistant Dietary Manager’s day to day responsibilities will be to maintain and monitor the operation of the kitchen at all times. This position must understand the function of each station within the kitchen, and be prepared to step in at any time. This position must also work to build the department as one team, including being aware of cross shifts and being pro-active in recommending issues and suggestion to the Director. This position will act as the Director in their absence.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Dietary Department, its programs and activities. Coordinate dietary services and activities with other related departments (nursing, housekeeping. social service, etc.). Assist in developing and maintaining written job descriptions and performance evaluations for each level of dietary personnel. Interpret the department’s policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, government agencies, etc., as necessary. Assist the dietary staff in all functions as needed and give aide as needed Ensure that all personnel have been properly trained and address training gaps appropriately with Supervisors, working to develop training plans and timelines Inspect food storage areas, utility/janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep and supply control. Review and assist in developing a plan of correction for dietary service deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such to the Administrator. Work with the facility’s consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required. Process diet changes and new diets as received from nursing department. Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining an ongoing Performance Improvement (PI) program for the Dietary department. Complete and submit reports to the PI Committee/Coordinator as requested. Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies. Interview residents or family members, as necessary, to obtain diet history. Maintain and adequate liaison with families and residents as necessary. Involve the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident. Participate in maintaining records of each resident’s food likes and dislikes. Assist in developing methods for determining quality and quantity of food served. Ensure that charted dietary progress notes are informative and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident’s response to the service. Ensure that menus are maintained and filed in accordance with established policies and procedures. Visit residents periodically to evaluate the resident’s satisfaction with dietary services. Assist in planning regular and special diet menus as prescribed by the attending physician. Assist in developing diet plans for individual residents. Review therapeutic and regular diet plans and menus to assure they are in compliance with the physician’s orders. Ensure that residents receive a nourishing snack at bedtime when appropriate. Serve on, attend and participate in various committees of the facility as requested.  Provide written and/or oral reports to these committees as required or directed. Evaluate and implement recommendations from established committees as they pertain to the Dietary department and services. Meet with dietary personnel on a regular basis concerning the operation of the Dietary department.  Assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the methods of improvement of services. Assist in supervising the Dietary department employees, ensuring that all employees follow established facility and departmental policies and procedures.  Utilize the Performance Management procedure to address/discipline employees as necessary to ensure compliance with these policies and procedures.  Assist in standardizing the methods in which dietary tasks will be performed. Maintain a productive working relationship with other department supervisors and coordinate dietary services to assure that daily dietary services can be performed without interruption. Make daily rounds to ensure that dietary employees are performing required duties and to assure that appropriate dietary procedures are being rendered to meet the needs of the facility and the residents. Make weekly inspections of all dietary functions to ensure that quality control measures are continually maintained. Assist in establishing a food service production procedure to assure that meals are prepared on time and in proper quantity so as to assure adequate supply without waste. Ensure that an adequate number of dietary employees are on duty. Address attendance concerns as necessary. Conduct dietary employee performance evaluations as requested and in accordance with established procedures. Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining an effective program that orients new employees to the department, its policies and procedures, and to his/her position and duties. Provide leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principles essential to the Dietary department. Ensure that dietary employees are trained to use labels and MSDSs to recognize hazards and to follow appropriate protective measures. Assist in developing safety standards for the dietary department. Monitor dietary employees to assure they are following established safety procedures in the provision of dietary services and in the use of equipment and supplies. Ensure that dietary areas throughout the facility are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.   General Respond to fire alarms as required (refer to Fire Safety Manual for employees’ responsibilities and those that are specific to your position. Treat all residents fairly, with kindness, dignity and respect. Maintain confidentiality of all resident and facility information. Report all complaints, concerns made by the resident, allegations of abuse or neglect to direct supervisor or the RN Supervisor. Follow all safety procedures and precautions in the performance of your duties and when operating equipment. Report all safety violations, unsafe or hazardous conditions and any equipment issues immediately. Review Corporate Compliance educational materials, comply with Corporate Compliance directives, and report any Corporate Compliance issues according to established procedures. Recognize your role as part of the QAPI efforts of the organization. Attend trainings to build understand and capacity to undertake QAPI work. Carry out QAPI roles and responsibilities as assigned. Follow established policies and procedures in support of QAPI efforts.   POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Ability to provide care/services in a manner supportive of the Mission and Philosophy of the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm. Honest, loyal, mission-oriented, reliable, responsible, and aware of safety requirements   QualificationsSKILLS & ABILITIES                                                                            Education:                                            High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education or training in food service management , hospitality, nutrition or related field is preferred. Experience:                                         Minimum of two years of supervisory management experience required. Supervisory experience in hospital, skilled nursing facility, long-care community, or other healthcare or medical setting preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft and food service/inventory software.                                                                                                                           Certificates & Licenses                        Current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Required. (or obtain within 6 months of hire). Certified Dietary Manger (CDM) Credentials preferred. Must maintain all certifications and credentials required for position throughout employment.
