Overview

RoviSys Building Technologies (RBT) is seeking an experienced Commissioning Lead / Commissioning Authority (CxA) to help support its Commissioning Services business unit. This role serves as the Owner's MEP Commissioning Authority on new construction and retrofit projects across data centers, life sciences/pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and automotive/EV facilities. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with deep, hands-on experience commissioning mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls systems in mission-critical and regulated environments. Beyond project delivery, this person will help stand up the business unit—supporting sales, developing commissioning processes and documentation, building a training program, driving adoption of Facility Grid as the commissioning management platform, and helping RBT pursue the Certified Commissioning Firm (CCF) designation. This is a field-forward, hands-on commissioning role, not a witness-only or paper-only position.

Responsibilities

Commissioning Leadership & Execution

  • Serve as the Owner's MEP Commissioning Authority (CxA) on large, complex new construction and retrofit projects.
  • Lead and manage on-site commissioning teams across Central Utility Plants, manufacturing spaces, clean rooms (ISO 5–8), and mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Lead the development and execution of commissioning processes, plans, and documentation across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and controls systems.
  • Direct hands-on functional performance testing (FPT) and integrated systems testing (IST), including failure-mode and recovery scenarios.
  • Perform and oversee real-time deficiency identification, triage, and closure in coordination with contractors and equipment suppliers.
  • Work directly with Owners, General Contractors, Trade Partners, and equipment suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.

Documentation & Deliverables

  • Review Owner's Project Requirements (OPR), Basis of Design (BoD), design documents, and submittals.
  • Prepare Commissioning Plans, Functional Performance Test documents, Construction/Installation Checklists, and Equipment Matrices.
  • Review BAS Sequences of Operations, points lists, and graphics packages.
  • Review Test and Balance (TAB) plans and final TAB reports.
  • Develop Final Commissioning Reports, Systems Manuals, and Ongoing Commissioning Plans.
  • Conduct site visits and lead Commissioning Meetings; align commissioning activities with project schedule and turnover milestones.

Business Unit Development

  • Support sales and business development, including proposal input, scoping, and client engagement.
  • Develop and standardize commissioning processes, templates, and test libraries for repeatable delivery.
  • Drive the adoption and rollout of Facility Grid as the primary commissioning management platform.
  • Help RBT pursue and maintain the Certified Commissioning Firm (CCF) designation, including establishing the required project track record and quality practices.
  • Contribute to the business unit's operating model, tools, and quality management system (QMS).

Team Development & Mentorship

  • Provide mentorship and training for project and field engineers, including new graduates entering the commissioning profession.
  • Develop and deliver commissioning training curriculum to support certification pathways (e.g., ACP, CCP) and professional growth.
  • Create career development plans, conduct goal reviews, and support performance appraisals.
  • Promote a culture of excellence, safety, and integrity across the team.

Safety & Quality

  • Champion a top-down safety culture, including energized systems testing, LOTO, and arc-flash awareness.
  • Enforce commissioning quality standards and adherence to industry guidelines throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in building commissioning, mechanical/plumbing, or industrial construction, with progressive leadership responsibility.
  • Proven experience serving as a Commissioning Authority or Commissioning Manager on large capital projects (data centers, life sciences, semiconductor, healthcare, or comparable mission-critical facilities).
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, central plants, sequences of operations, P&IDs, instrumentation, and control valves.
  • Experience with the full commissioning process and deliverables (OPR/BoD review, commissioning plans, FPT, IST, TAB review, final reports, systems manuals).
  • Familiarity with commissioning and quality management software platforms (Facility Grid preferred; CxAlloy, BlueRithm, or similar acceptable).
  • Building automation and/or industrial controls experience (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, AVEVA, Tridium, Inductive Automation) is a strong plus.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs and mentoring engineers.
  • Excellent communication, planning, organization, leadership, and motivation skills.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or similar scheduling tools.
  • Willingness to travel and support field assignments.

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) – Building Commissioning Certification Board (BCCB) – strongly preferred.
  • Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) – ACG (AABC Commissioning Group).
  • Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP) – ASHRAE.
  • Building Enclosure Commissioning Provider (BECxP) / Commissioning Authority + Building Enclosure (CxA+BE).
