Production Manager

The Production Manager provides operational leadership across multiple departments, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing. This role directs supervisors and production teams, manages resources, and partners closely with engineering, maintenance, and quality to hit daily, weekly, and long-term performance targets. The Production Manager plays a key role in workforce development, cross-department coordination, capacity planning, and continuous improvement to support company growth and customer satisfaction.


Job Duties:Ā 

1. Multi-Department Leadership & Workforce Management

Ā· Provide direct leadership to production supervisors and indirect leadership to staff across all assigned departments.

Ā· Ensure staffing levels, training plans, and resource allocation support production demands.

Ā· Monitor performance, coach supervisors, and support corrective action processes when needed.

Ā· Establish expectations for safety, quality, productivity, and professionalism and hold teams accountable to those standards.

Ā· Lead regular team meetings, communicate priorities clearly, and maintain strong presence on the production floor.

Ā· Participate in hiring decisions for hourly employees.

Ā· Develop succession planning, technical development, and skill-growth opportunities for team members.

2. Operational Planning & Production Execution

Ā· Translate production goals into executable daily/weekly schedules across all assigned departments.

Ā· Coordinate workloads between departments to optimize flow, reduce bottlenecks, and meet delivery expectations.

Ā· Analyze labor, equipment capacity, and scheduling constraints to support operational planning.

Ā· Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Maintenance to resolve issues that impact throughput or product integrity.

Ā· Ensure all required production documentation, process forms, and reports are completed accurately and on time.

Ā· Oversee adherence to standard work, operating procedures, and quality specifications.

3. Safety, Compliance & Culture

Ā· Ensure all staff receive proper training related to safety, equipment operation, and emergency procedures.

Ā· Drive a safety-first mindset, investigate incidents, and implement corrective actions and preventive measures.

Ā· Enforce adherence to company policies, OSHA guidelines, and internal safety protocols.

Ā· Partner with HR on employee relations issues and participate in investigations as needed.

4. Continuous Improvement & Process Optimization

Ā· Champion lean manufacturing, 5S, standard work improvement, and waste-reduction initiatives across departments.

Ā· Lead cross-functional problem-solving efforts related to quality defects, process inefficiencies, equipment downtime, or safety concerns.

Ā· Identify opportunities for automation, workflow improvements, and better utilization of labor and machinery.

Ā· Track relevant KPIs and drive performance toward targets in safety, quality, output, cost, and delivery.

Requirements

Ā Ā 

Ā· Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in supervisory role. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operation, or Business preferred.Ā 

Ā· Experience leading teams or projects is strongly desired but not required

Ā· Lean manufacturing and continuous process improvement experience (preferred)

Ā· 10+ years production experience, 5+ years supervisory experience

Ā· Self-starter. Able to work with minimal supervision

Ā· Excellent time management and organizational skills

Ā· Strong leadership skills

Ā· Ability to coordinate and monitor a high level or activity as demonstrated under a variety of conditions and restraints

Ā· Ability to analyze and solve problems and comprehend complex instructions with schematic drawings

Ā· Relates well to others, including as appropriate, peers, supervisors, subordinates, customers and suppliers

Ā· Responds appropriately to unexpected and/or continuing situations which develop in the work environment

Ā· Ability to work collaboratively with others

Ā· Effective written and verbal communication

Ā· Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Physical requirements

Ā· Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms-length

Ā· Climb or balance

Ā· Stoop, kneel and crouch

Ā· Must be ale to climb a ladder to access equipment

Ā· Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally list and/or move up to 50 pounds.
