Job Summary
The IT Systems Support Specialist provides on-site, hands-on technical support and manages core IT infrastructure for a small Critical Access Hospital. This role supports clinical and business operations by maintaining end-user devices, networks, servers, security systems, and Microsoft 365. The ideal candidate is a versatile, service-oriented professional comfortable working across multiple IT domains in a healthcare setting.

Essential Job Duties

End-User & Device Support

  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot PCs, laptops, printers, faxes, scanners, label printers, tablets, phones, TVs, etc.
  • Provide technical support for organizational staff, including clinical and administrative users.
  • Document support requests and resolutions in a help desk system.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access using Active Directory and Group Policy.
  • Support Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
  • Assist with device enrollment and management using Microsoft Intune.

Network & Infrastructure

  • Perform basic network administration, including switch management and Wi-Fi troubleshooting.
  • Install and maintain network cabling, wall drops, patch panels, and equipment racks.
  • Assist with firewall, router, and VPN configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor network performance and respond to connectivity issues.

Systems & Applications Support

  • Assist with support of EHR (electronic health record) systems and other healthcare-related support systems (medication dispensing system, telemetry, telemedicine).
  • Assist in maintaining on-prem and/or virtual servers (Windows Server).
  • Support system installations, patching, updates, and routine maintenance.
  • Assist with backup systems, disaster recovery (DR) processes, and restore testing.
  • Monitor systems using Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools.

Security & Compliance

  • Follow hospital IT security policies and healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA).
  • Assist with endpoint protection, patch compliance, and access control.
  • Identify and escalate potential security incidents or vulnerabilities.

Operations & Other Duties

  • Document systems, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Coordinate with vendors and managed service providers as needed.
  • Support after-hours or on-call responsibilities as required.
  • Perform other IT-related duties as assigned to support hospital & clinic operations.

Integration & Clinical Systems

  • Basic understanding of HL7 interfaces and healthcare system integrations
  • Ability to monitor interface status, identify errors, and coordinate troubleshooting with vendors
  • Familiarity with data flow between EHR, lab, radiology, and third-party systems

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in IT support or systems administration (healthcare experience preferred).
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Windows desktop and server environments
    • Active Directory and Group Policy
    • PC hardware troubleshooting
    • Basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a small-team environment.

Preferred/Plus Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Experience with SharePoint (site permissions, document libraries).
  • Experience with Microsoft Intune / endpoint management.
  • Familiarity with RMM tools.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery systems.
  • Knowledge of firewalls and network security.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or regulated environment.

Physical & Work Requirements 

  • Ability to lift and move IT equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to run network cabling and work in equipment rooms.
  • Occasional after-hours or emergency support may be required.
