Job DetailsJob Location: Melissa Memorial Hospital - HOLYOKE, CO 80734Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: High SchoolSalary Range: $16.00 - $17.00 HourlyJob Shift: DayJob Category: Admin - ClericalJOB SUMMARY: The Health Information Management (HIM) Clerk I is an entry-level position responsible for performing basic clerical and administrative tasks to support the accurate maintenance, organization, and security of patient health records. Working under close supervision, the HIM Clerk I assists with scanning, filing, data entry, and release of information activities in compliance with HIPAA and organizational standards. This role provides essential support to the HIM team and serves as an introduction to healthcare data and records management.   ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Retrieve, prepare, and scan patient records into the electronic health record (EHR) system following established protocols. Verify the accuracy and quality of scanned documents and ensure they are indexed to the correct patient account. File, archive, and organize paper health records and documents as required. Perform data entry and updates in the EHR and HIM tracking systems. Assist in locating, pulling, and delivering medical records for patient care or review. Support the release of information (ROI) process by preparing and routing record requests as directed. Maintain confidentiality of all patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times. Participate in basic quality checks and record audits to ensure accuracy and completeness. Assist with mail distribution, faxing, and other clerical tasks in support of HIM operations. Follow established HIM policies, procedures, and workflow standards. Perform other duties as assigned by the HIM Supervisor or Manager.           Work Environment & Schedule:   Healthcare setting such as a hospital, clinic, or medical office. Standard business hours (Monday–Friday), with possible evening or weekend shifts depending on volume. Frequent sitting, standing, and handling paper documents. *In addition to the responsibilities described above, the role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned on occasion, based upon MMH needs or requirements. Exhibit courteous, compassionate, and respectful treatment of internal and external customers. Displays a positive attitude and flexibility in changing situations. Report any compliance issues as designated in the MMH Compliance Program QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:                   MINIMUM: High school diploma or GED required. 0–2 year of experience in health information management, medical records, or healthcare office setting preferred (on-the-job training provided). Basic knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Familiarity with computers, scanners, and standard office equipment. Ability to learn and use electronic health record (EHR) systems. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information responsibly. Effective communication and teamwork skills.            PREFERRED:  Experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare administrative office. Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy regulations. Interest in pursuing a career in Health Information Management or related field. While being “rural” we are equipped for any situation. It is a model rural hospital with 1 operating room, surgical procedure room, 4 bay emergency room, and radiology including 64-slice CT scanner and mammography, MRI, ECHO, and Nuclear Medicine, along with other ancillary services. The hospital is co-located with a family practice clinic and retail pharmacy services. Other services include chemotherapy, general & orthopedic surgery, podiatry, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, progressive rehab services, and wound care. MMH operates a full-time EMS service and maintains a 24/7 AirLife Helicopter base.      THE COMMUNITY:  Holyoke is home to the Holyoke Dragons and is truly a “City of Pride and Progress.” Holyoke offers: from different coffee shops to different ethnic flavors, to a quick bite, the sweet small town of Holyoke has a handful of different restaurant options to choose from.  Holyoke is based in Phillips County where there are four different rural towns in the county with two schools in the county.
