The Aquatic Coordinator will supervise day to day programs and activities. Aquatics Coordinator should expect to have some time lifeguarding/teaching and leading classes as well as ensure leadership presence during peak times of high swimmer volume. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. 

 

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in aquatics, required.
  • Minimum age of 21, required.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification, which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid/AED.
  • Current certification for Oxygen Administration.
  • LGI Lifeguard Certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Is expected to cover lifeguarding and swim instructing when a shift is not filled.
  2. Performs as Head Lifeguard when on duty.
  3. Interview, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct personnel.
  4. Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  1. Maintain accurate records of pool logs and report needed pool maintenance.
  2. Create and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules of the Aquatics Center. This includes properly training staff to use the cleaning equipment.
  1. Ensure records of staff certifications are current and complete. 
  2. Review and evaluate staff performance.
  3. Submit Payroll Remove and Payroll Adjustment forms to Human Resources in a timely manner.
  4. Report to location during “All Director” emergency calls. 
  5. Communicate necessary pool closures to supervisor, marketing and front desk in a timely manor.
  6. Provide quality member service by knowing members by name, displaying a pleasant and professional attitude at all times, assisting members, and referring questions or concerns outside your area of expertise to a supervisor.
  7. Respond to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  8. The ability to accept constructive criticism and take corrective actions as needed.
  9. Development of Lifeguard customer service skills and job performance. Set the expectation standard.
  10. Assist Swim Lesson Coordinator as needed.
  11. Attend weekly staff meetings.
  12. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals. 
  13. Coordinate aquatic staff for special events, e.g. triathlon, Healthy Kids Day, etc.
  14. Act in a professional manner at all times according to the YMCA Code of Conduct.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
