Job Description SummaryA public school district in Illinois is seeking a Licensed Special Education Teacher (LBS1) to support students with diverse learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. This role focuses on delivering individualized instruction, managing IEPs, and collaborating with educators, families, and support staff to ensure students reach their fullest potential.
What You’ll Do
- Identify student needs and develop, implement, and manage IEPs in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Deliver individualized, small-group, and whole-group instruction using research-based practices.
- Provide students access to the general education curriculum through appropriate accommodations and modifications.
- Create and maintain a structured, positive classroom environment that supports learning and well-being.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of academic, behavioral, and social-emotional progress.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and instruction.
- Coordinate and lead IEP meetings, including preparation and documentation.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with families, staff, and administrators.
- Supervise and support paraprofessionals and support staff as assigned.
- Implement and maintain behavior intervention plans and classroom procedures.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with special education documentation requirements.
- Participate in meetings, professional development, and school initiatives.
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement.
- Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with differentiated instruction and behavior management strategies.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Competence using instructional technology, diagnostic tools, and data-driven practices.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold high ethical standards.
- CPI certification or ability to maintain certification as required.
- Experience working with English Language Learners.
- Background in inclusive and least restrictive environment (LRE) programming.
- Experience supervising paraprofessionals or support staff.
- Strong family engagement and home–school communication skills.
