Position Overview

The Senior Quality Inspector is responsible for performing advanced quality inspections, ensuring compliance with aerospace standards, customer specifications, and internal processes within the propulsion system and thruster production line. This role plays a critical part in guaranteeing product reliability, safety, and performance for space applications, while mentoring junior inspectors and supporting continuous improvement in quality control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspection & Verification
    • Perform detailed inspections on propulsion system components, thrusters, subassemblies, and final assemblies using precision measurement tools and test equipment.
    • Verify conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and acceptance criteria.
    • Conduct in-process, first-article, and final inspections, including mechanical, electrical, and dimensional checks.
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • Review and validate inspection documentation, test data, and quality records for accuracy and completeness.
    • Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO, and customer-specific quality requirements.
    • Maintain detailed records in Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Problem-Solving & Nonconformance
    • Identify, document, and escalate nonconformances and deviations; assist in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
    • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve quality issues efficiently.
  • Leadership & Mentorship
    • Train and mentor junior inspectors and technicians on quality standards, inspection techniques, and industry best practices.
    • Act as a subject matter expert in propulsion and thruster product quality.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Recommend process and inspection improvements to enhance quality, reliability, and efficiency.
    • Support audits, process reviews, and qualification campaigns for propulsion components.

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience
    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering (preferred) or equivalent experience.
    • 7+ years of experience in aerospace or space hardware quality inspection, with at least 3 years in propulsion or thruster systems.
    • Strong knowledge of aerospace quality standards (AS9100, ISO 9001, ECSS, NASA, or equivalent).
  • Technical Skills
    • Proficient in using precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, CMM, borescopes, electrical test equipment).
    • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, and schematics.
    • Familiarity with propulsion system components: valves, tanks, igniters, thruster assemblies, and propellant feed systems.
    • Strong understanding of cleanroom protocols and contamination control requirements.
  • Soft Skills
    • High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.
    • Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
    • Ability to lead, mentor, and support a culture of quality and accountability.

Preferred Certifications

  • IPC-A-610 / IPC-A-620 (Acceptability of Electronic and Cable Assemblies)
  • GD&T certification (ASME Y14.5)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or Certified Quality Technician (CQT)
