Description

Sullivan Tire, an employee-owned company, is seeking a Diesel Technician II. This position will Independently perform vehicle repairs and services (including road service) of higher levels of complexity on customer’s vehicles while also delivering the highest level of quality and customer satisfaction. Work with store management to ensure productivity, profitability and customer satisfaction standards are met. Adheres to internal controls, policies, and procedures.


Responsibilities:

  1. Properly adhere to safety and environmental standards which includes maintaining a neat and clean work area by disposing of all waste products properly.
  2. Properly perform and document vehicle safety inspections.
  3. Perform preventive maintenance of varying difficulty on customer vehicles including lube, oil, and filter changes.
  4. Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts.
  5. Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics.
  6. Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting systems worked on.
  7. Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards as needed.
  8. Produce accurate repair estimates on customer vehicles.
  9. Communicate with customer and/or sales staff in understandable terms the repairs needed to the vehicle and the value that comes with the repairs.
  10. Perform on the road repairs. 
  11. Assume other responsibilities as assigned by manager or senior mechanics.
  12. Operates company vehicles safely and according to company policies and procedures, and follows all federal, state and local laws regarding vehicle operations and safety.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent. Technical degree a plus. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic with appropriate certifications, preferred with own mechanical tools.
  • Valid Drivers license with DOT medical card required. 
  • Ability to lift 125 lbs.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Customer service focus in a commercial environment
  • Basic conflict resolution skills
  • Solid understanding of truck service industry
  • Basic understanding of PC programs.
  • Basic math skills to produce accurate repair estimates.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-pace environment
  • Ability to work in any weather conditions
  • Team player
