Summary:

The function of Metrologist I is to ensure that all measuring equipment used for product inspection and acceptance performs to an established minimum standard and tolerance. Metrologist I receives authority from and report to the Quality Manager/Quality Supervisor and exercises authority over no other employee. 

Specific duties of Metrologist I include but are not limited to: 

1. Identify all company measuring equipment by applying a unique number to each unit

2. Calibrate all measuring equipment, used to inspect Benoit products, on a scheduled basis.

3. Clean and lubricate measuring equipment at the time of calibration.

4. Affix calibration status decals on all measuring equipment after calibration.

5. Perform and document a Receiving Inspection and initial calibration on any new measuring equipment prior to use.

6. Perform and document receiving inspection on all threading inserts prior to use.

7. Maintain master gauges and reference standards in such a manner to avoid deterioration or damage.

8. Maintain a clean, neat, well-equipped calibration lab.

9. Maintain clear, legible records to substantiate calibration activities for each piece of measuring equipment.

10. Alert the Quality Manager/Quality Supervisor to any potential problems which may arise due to faulty or nonconforming measuring equipment.

11. Perform any dimensional inspections assigned by the Quality Manager/Quality Supervisor.

Qualification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED with 3–5 years manufacturing experience
  • 1–3 years Quality Assurance/Quality Control experience
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency in handheld gauge set-up and calibration
  • Prior Experience with gauge management and calibration database.
  • Prior experience in Quality engineering environment
  • Proficiency in quality inspection tools and measurement equipment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excell
  • Strong documentation, organization, and reporting skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions in English
  • Sufficient visual acuity to perform job duties safely and accurately
  • Ability to work in office, warehouse, production, or outdoor environments as required

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift, move, adjust, push, pull, and carry objects to waist height up to 30 lbs. without assistance
  • Frequent use of computer, phone, copier, printer, and other office equipment
  • Frequent use of handheld tools and measuring devices for extended periods of time
  • Visual acuity to see clearly, including reading small print or monitoring equipment
  • Fine motor skills for use in calibration of all measuring equipment, maintenance of master gauges, and inspection of threading inserts.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, stooping and use of stairs
  • Frequent walking throughout production, warehouse, and office areas
  • Exposure to noise, temperature variations, and shop environment
