Position Overview

Aveanna Education Services is seeking Certified Special Education Teachers in Housatonic, Massuchusetts (Pittsfield Metro Area).

The open positions are in a public school for students grades K-12 with autism, developmental disabilities, and communication disorders.

The Special Education teacher will create and maintain a superior academic environment by developing and implementing a classroom structure consistent with the needs of each student and the classroom in its entirety.

  • Location: Berkshire Meadows School JRI - Housatonic, MA

  • Service Settings: School-based services

  • Schedule: 7:30am to 3:30pm

  • Grades: K-12

  • Caseload: Within agency guidelines, includes travel time

  • HR/Clearance Requirements:

    • TB Test

    • PA State Police Clearance (Act 34)

    • FBI Fingerprint Clearance (Act 114)

    • Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)

    • Mandated Reporter Training

Some responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing lesson plans
  • Meet and instruct classes
  • Write and implement IEPs
  • Initiate student evaluations and document progress
  • Create an instructional environment for appropriate development of students
  • Collaborate effectively with related-services staff to address the students’ needs

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and implement lesson plans and modify instruction to meet the individual needs of students
  • Provide behavioral management
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on students' progress
  • Attend and participate in meetings

Requirements

  • Special Education Degree: A Bachelor's of Science in Education with an emphasis in teaching students with special needs is recommended. 
  • Required Tests and Endorsements: Valid state-issued teacher certification with special education endorsement is required.
  • Academic Verification: Provide proof of completing an accredited educator preparation program.
  • Preferred experience working with students with a wide range of disabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Prolonged walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting
  • Must be able to sufficiently reposition patients and move equipment without assistance

Environment

Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to allergens and other various conditions. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
