The Accounting Compliance Manager oversees all aspects of the company’s tax compliance, including the accurate and timely filing of domestic and international tax returns, compliance with local and international tax laws, and support for internal and external audits. This role helps reduce tax risk and identifies opportunities for tax savings. The Accounting Compliance Manager also supports the business through additional accounting projects and related tasks as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with outside tax firms for preparation and timely filing of all tax returns (multi state sales tax, corporate and shareholder income tax, VAT/GST, property tax, etc.) in accordance with tax laws.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess the potential impact on business operations. Provide recommendations for tax compliance.
- Determine if nexus has been reached in any remaining states.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and government authorities during audits and reviews.
- Manage and maintain up-to-date tax records, reports, and supporting documents including intrastat reporting in the European Union.
- Assist in tax accrual calculations under US GAAP and local GAAP in Europe.
- Support transfer pricing documentation and intercompany transactions for tax compliance.
- Collaborate with supply chain and production teams to assess tax implications on material sourcing and finished goods distribution.
- Identify process improvements to optimize the tax compliance function and reduce tax liabilities where legally appropriate.
- Reconcile tax accounts and ensure proper documentation and support for all tax filings.
- Supports the month end close process.
- Other accounting projects as needed.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in tax, preferably within a manufacturing or retail environment. International tax experience a plus
- Strong understanding of sales tax, corporate tax, VAT, GST, and tax accounting principles.
- Familiarity with tax issues specific to manufacturing and e-commerce sales in the U.S. and abroad
Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in ERP software (SAP preferred) and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with tax software such as Vertex, Avalara, or similar.
- Familiarity with international tax compliance, including cross-border transactions and customs duties.
- High attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
