This position supports the Army Prepositioned Stocks – 4 Program located in Camp Carroll, Korea. The Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic II will comply with all applicable safety and environmental regulations, local safety policies, and KBR’s Zero Harm program.

Job Summary

The Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic II will comply with all applicable safety and environmental regulations, local safety policies, and KBR’s Zero Harm program. The mechanic provides Care of Stock in Storage (COSIS) based on preventive maintenance and repair services under the guidance of the Heavy Wheeled Vehicle Section Supervisor. These maintenance procedures are performed on the Mobile Brigade Combat Team (MBCT) heavy wheeled fleet (greater than 2-1/2 ton), which includes the Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) family – Wrecker (M984A4), Expansible Van, and Fuel/Water Tanker variants; the Palletized Load System (PLS) Truck (M1120A4) and 8x20 PLS Trailer; the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV/LMTV) Cargo Trailer (M1095) and Flatbed Cargo Trailer (M1082); 5-Ton Cargo Trucks (standard, long-wheelbase, and expansible van, with/without winch); Truck Tractors (line-haul and Line Haul Equipment Transporter/LET); 10-Ton Dump Trucks; 12-Ton Supply Semitrailer Vans; 40-Ton Low-Bed Semitrailers; 5-Ton Water Tank Trailers (CAMEL); and 4-Ton Bolster Trailers, and other heavy wheeled tactical vehicles and trailers maintained on the APS-4 program.

General maintenance includes, but is not limited to: Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS); general inspections; component repairs and replacement; unscheduled maintenance; and repair of inbound equipment. The mechanic diagnoses and troubleshoots component and system malfunctions, determines required repairs and parts, and completes lubrication orders at the -10 and -20 level.

Detailed maintenance includes adjustment and replacement of brakes and associated components; removal and reinstallation of heavy armor panels; support to MVAC technicians for air conditioning repairs; removal and replacement of starters, generators, and batteries; repair of fuel tanks and fuel system components; replacement and adjustment of steering gear boxes; replacement and repair of transfer cases and propeller shafts; repair and replacement of Fire Suppression System components; and repair and replacement of pneumatic systems. The mechanic also performs road tests, ground guide operations, vehicle washing, fueling/defueling, and maintains accountability for all tools, equipment, and work areas. Performs other duties as assigned.

Please note: This position is located in Camp Carroll, Korea and is contingent on award.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform Care of Stock in Storage (COSIS), preventive maintenance, and repair services on the HEMTT, PLS, FMTV/LMTV, MRAP FOV, 5-Ton cargo trucks, truck tractors, dump trucks, semitrailers, and other heavy wheeled tactical vehicles and trailers (greater than 2-1/2 ton) maintained on the APS-4 program.

  • Maintains and repairs the following heavy wheeled platforms and trailers: HEMTT Wrecker (M984A4); HEMTT Expansible Van; HEMTT Fuel and Water Tanker variants; PLS Truck (M1120A4); 8x20 PLS Trailer; FMTV/LMTV Cargo Trailer (M1095); FMTV/LMTV Flatbed Cargo Trailer (M1082); 5-Ton Cargo Truck (WO/Winch and Long-Wheelbase); Truck Tractor (line-haul and LET); 10-Ton Dump Truck; 12-Ton Supply Semitrailer Van; 40-Ton Low-Bed Semitrailer; 5-Ton Water Tank Trailer (CAMEL); and 4-Ton Bolster Trailer.

  • Conduct Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) at the -10 and -20 level; perform general inspections, component repairs and replacement, unscheduled maintenance, and repair of inbound vehicles.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot component and system malfunctions; determine required repairs and parts; complete lubrication orders.

  • Adjust and replace brakes and associated components; remove and reinstall heavy armor side and bottom panels; assist MVAC technicians with air conditioning repairs and adjustments.

  • Remove and replace starters, generators, and batteries; maintain and repair fuel tanks and associated fuel system components; replace and adjust steering gear boxes; replace and repair transfer cases and propeller shafts.

  • Repair and replace Fire Suppression System modules, sensors, wiring, and extinguisher bottles; repair and replace pneumatic systems and components; replace minor components such as fuses, circuit breakers, windshield wiper blades, and light bulbs.

  • Perform road tests, ground guide operations, vehicle washing, and fueling/defueling of vehicles.

  • Maintain and account for all provided and personal tools, equipment, and work areas.

  • Comply with all applicable safety and environmental regulations, local safety policies, and KBR’s Zero Harm program.

Basic Qualifications (Required Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with a valid U.S. Passport.

  • Ability to provide documentation to qualify as US EXPAT Invited Contractor Status and SOFA Visa IAW USFK 700-19 Regulation.

  • Possess a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator License.

  • High School/GED plus five years of directly related work experience in the maintenance and repair of the HEMTT, PLS, FMTV/LMTV, or other U.S. Army heavy wheeled tactical vehicles (greater than 2-1/2 ton).

  • In lieu of formal course work, a combination of college credits, on-the-job training, other formalized training, or experience may be considered. 

  • Ability to work from technical manuals, work instructions, and work orders.

  • Must be able to provide a basic automotive tool set equal to a General Mechanics Tool Set.

  • Favorable adjudication of an NACI background check.

  • Ability to use automotive maintenance tools, diagnostic equipment, wiring diagrams, and relevant technical and parts manuals.

  • Must be able to work in a non-temperature-controlled environment, heat and humidity.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to waist level and 35 pounds to shoulder height.

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.

  • Required to pass initial and periodic medical screening.

Preferred Qualifications (Preferred Education, Experience, Skills, and Certifications)

  • Certification from a vocational school or other recognized source, such as a military service-related Advanced Individual Training with a focus in electrical or automotive repair, is preferred. Successful completion of FMTV, HEMTT, or PLS equivalent platform-specific training is also preferred.

  • EPA MVAC Technician Certification is not required; however, it is preferred.
