A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a ConstructionĀ Design/BuildĀ Project ManagerĀ (DBM)Ā Intern/Co-op, every day brings a new lesson. You’ll gain exposure to the full lifecycle of a project while working alongside experienced professionals who are invested in your growth.Ā 

Here’s what you can expect:Ā 

  • Concept to Completion Approach – GainĀ how ARCO manages projects from the initial concept through final delivery.Ā 
  • Estimating and Takeoffs – Learn to describe project proposals and assign accurate dollar values.Ā 
  • Scheduling – Assist in creating timelines for subcontractors/tradesĀ activities.Ā 
  • Design Meetings – Attend meetings with the owner and design team, including structural engineers and architects.Ā 
  • Reporting – Prepare weekly reports, document progress, and track meeting action items.Ā 
  • Shadowing – Join project calls and site meetings to observe how our Design/Build Managers lead.Ā 
  • Buyout – Send bid instructions, schedules, and drawings to subcontractors. Evaluate proposals and assist with awarding subcontracts.Ā 
  • Permitting – Complete and submit permit applications with necessary documents and fees to city/county/fire authorities.Ā 
  • Shop Drawing & Submittal Review – Receive and route submittals toĀ DBMsĀ and communicate approvals to subcontractors.Ā 
  • Billing – Learn about subcontracts, change orders, pay requests, and pay applications.Ā 
  • Job Site Visits – Visit job sites withĀ DBMsĀ to monitor project progress.Ā 
  • Training & Learning – Attend offsite trainings and biweekly learning sessions provided by the Learning and Development team.Ā 
  • Business Development – Gain exposureĀ to how we build client relationshipsĀ andĀ implementĀ industry-wide business development strategies.Ā

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Ā 

  • Enrolled in an accreditedĀ Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, Construction Management, Building Science, or Construction EngineeringĀ undergraduate or graduate programĀ (other related engineering majors will be considered)Ā 
  • Driver’s LicenseĀ 
  • Excellent verbal communication skills,Ā attention to detail, and a strong work ethicĀ 
  • Previous Co-op or Intern experience in construction preferred,Ā but not requiredĀ 
  • GPA 3.0 or higherĀ preferred,Ā but not requiredĀ
