Position Summary

Loomis is seeking a full-time Database Administrator to support and maintain our enterprise database environment. This role will be primarily focused on Microsoft SQL Server administration, with additional responsibilities supporting Windows-based application environments, reporting platforms, production troubleshooting, database migrations, and after-hours operational support.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience administering SQL Server in a production environment, supporting high availability and disaster recovery, troubleshooting performance issues, managing SQL Agent jobs, supporting database security, and partnering with application, infrastructure, and business teams. This role requires a dependable DBA who can take ownership of critical systems, follow change management standards, document work clearly, and respond to production issues as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server environments.
  • Support SQL Server versions including legacy and current platforms such as SQL Server 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022, and newer versions as applicable.
  • Perform database backup, recovery, maintenance, and integrity checks.
  • Support high availability and disaster recovery technologies, including Always On Availability Groups and related SQL Server HA/DR configurations.
  • Monitor database performance, troubleshoot blocking, deadlocks, long-running queries, wait statistics, indexing issues, and query execution plans.
  • Tune T-SQL queries, stored procedures, indexes, and database configurations to improve performance and stability.
  • Manage and troubleshoot SQL Server Agent jobs, maintenance jobs, alerts, operators, and job failures.
  • Support SQL Server security, permissions, logins, roles, service accounts, and access requests.
  • Assist with SQL Server migrations, upgrades, patching, server moves, and application database cutovers.
  • Support reporting and data-related platforms such as SQL Server Reporting Services and Power BI Report Server.
  • Provide support for application teams, infrastructure teams, developers, and business users.
  • Participate in required on-call rotation and provide after-hours support for production issues, maintenance windows, deployments, and emergencies.
  • Perform other database administration and technology support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional database administration experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server administration in production environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-level databases with high availability, disaster recovery, backup, restore, and performance requirements.
  • Strong T-SQL troubleshooting and query tuning skills.
  • Experience with SQL Server Agent jobs, database maintenance plans, backups, restores, DBCC checks, and index/statistics maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting performance issues using execution plans, wait stats, blocking analysis, indexing strategies, and SQL Server DMVs.
  • Experience with SQL Server security, permissions, roles, logins, and access management.
  • Experience supporting SQL Server migrations, upgrades, patching, and server/database moves.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, document work clearly, and follow established change management processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.
  • Experience with SQL Server replication.
  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services and/or Power BI Report Server.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or other Azure data platform services.
  • Experience supporting legacy applications and database platforms during modernization or migration efforts.
  • Microsoft SQL Server or Azure certifications are a plus but not required.

Work Environment and Expectations

This is a full-time, on-site position. The role requires participation in an on-call rotation and after-hours support for production incidents, maintenance windows, deployments, migrations, and emergency troubleshooting. The candidate must be comfortable supporting critical systems in a production environment and working with cross-functional technical and business teams.
