Engineering Student Success Coordinator

The University of St. Thomas, a private university committed to the liberal arts and to the intellectual and religious tradition of Catholic higher education, invites applications for an Engineering Student Success Coordinator. This full- time, year-round, benefits-eligible professional position reports to the Chair of the Physics and Engineering Department and works in close collaboration with the STEM Success Center Director.

Position Summary

The Engineering Student Success Coordinator provides day-to-day academic support, coaching, programming, and student engagement services for engineering students. The Coordinator supports retention, persistence, academic progress, and professional preparation by coordinating tutoring, early alert interventions, outreach, transition programs, and continuous improvement activities aligned with departmental and student success priorities.

 

Qualifications

  • Master's or D. degree in Engineering or a closely related STEM field; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience in student success, academic advising, academic coaching, retention programs, or related student support services in higher education.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively engage students, faculty, administrators, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational and program management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives and priorities simultaneously.
  • Student-centered mindset with strong analytical, problem-solving, and follow-through
  • Familiarity with ABET accreditation standards, assessment, and continuous improvement
  • Experience with engineering outreach, recruitment, student engagement, or transition initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day academic support services for engineering students, including student outreach, coaching, referrals, and follow-up.
  • Design and implement individualized academic coaching strategies and early alert interventions to support student success, persistence, and timely academic progress.
  • Support and/or coordinate Physics and Engineering tutoring programs, including year-round tutoring delivery and related student support services.
  • Develop and implement targeted academic intervention programs for at-risk students, including students with a semester or cumulative GPA below 2.0.
  • Support first-year and transfer student transition programs, including orientation activities, onboarding support, and academic success workshops.
  • Organize and support engineering outreach and recruitment initiatives for prospective and newly admitted
  • Support engineering career development initiatives in collaboration with faculty, external partners, alumni, and industry representatives.
  • Plan and coordinate student engagement activities, including engineering mixers, networking events, student success workshops, and community-building programs.
  • Support Engineering Advisory Board activities and engagement, including preparation, coordination, and follow- up as needed.
  • Coordinate Engineering Week programming and related student engagement
  • Support experiential learning programs, including the Internship in Engineering course, through student preparation workshops, professional development activities, and related coordination.
  • Contribute to program assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement processes related to engineering student support services, retention initiatives, tutoring, outreach, and engagement programs.
