Full-Time Non-Tenure Track Faculty Position

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMCH) Graduate program at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, announces one full-time, non-tenure track (10-month) faculty position. Start date for the position is August 1, 2026. We are seeking an individual who shares our vision for training highly competent and effective professional counselors who uphold the highest standards of the profession and encourage the dialogue between faith and reason.

The CMHC program prepares students to serve the community as licensed professional counselors (LPCs). Graduates of the Master of Science (M.S.) in CMHC meet the educational and practical requirements the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors (TSBEPC) for eligibility for LPC licensure. The M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is accredited by CACREP.

The M.S. in CMHC program upholds the core values of the university and professional counseling, with a particular emphasis on the promotion of the highest standards of ethical, legal, and professional conduct; evidence-based clinical practice; respect for and ability to engage with socially and culturally diverse backgrounds; respect for the dignity of all persons; and the ongoing dialogue between faith and reason. The program is poised for leadership and service in Houston, one of America's most culturally diverse centers. Further, the department fosters the growth of students, faculty, and staff, and faculty members receive supportive mentoring from senior faculty.

The position responsibilities include:

• Teaching 7 graduate-level courses per year (usually 3-4 per semester)
• Participation, leadership, and membership within the profession and professional organizations
• Serving on departmental, school, and university committees
• Academic advising and mentoring of graduate students
• Developing and carrying out a productive research agenda in clinical, supervision, or education issues in the professional counseling field

Applicants must:

• Core faculty must meet one of the following qualifications:
1. have an earned doctoral degree in counselor education, preferably from a CACREP accredited program; or
2. have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013; or
3. have been employed as a full-time doctoral-level faculty member in a CORE-accredited master's program prior to July 1, 2017; or
4. have graduated from a rehabilitation doctoral program prior to January 1, 2018.
• Be licensed or license-eligible as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in Texas
• Possess advanced clinical, supervision, and teaching skills,
• Have knowledge of and sustained professional engagement in line with CACREP professional standards,
• Demonstrate the potential for an active and productive program of research,
• Demonstrate emerging professional leadership skills in professional counseling and/or counselor education,
• Demonstrate respect for and ability to engage with a diverse array of worldviews and faith traditions,
• Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the University as expressed in UST's Mission Statement and Ex Corde Ecclesiae.
