Position Summary

The Drug/GM (General Merchandise) Manager leads the Drug/General Merchandise Department to drive sales, profitability, and operational excellence. This role is responsible for ensuring shelves are fully stocked, merchandise is effectively displayed, and customers receive outstanding service while managing inventory, shrink, and team performance.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Oversee all Drug/GM operations including ordering, stocking, and inventory control
  • Ensure shelves and displays are fully stocked, faced, and merchandised to company standards
  • Manage product assortment including health & beauty, over-the-counter medications, seasonal, and general merchandise
  • Execute promotional displays, planograms, and seasonal merchandising programs
  • Monitor and maintain proper product rotation and shrink control processes
Customer Experience
  • Deliver excellent customer service and ensure team members provide the same
  • Assist customers with product selection, especially in health and wellness categories
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and easy-to-shop department
Team Leadership & Development
  • Hire, train, and develop Drug/GM associates
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management
  • Create schedules aligned to workload and sales trends
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and strong execution
Financial Performance
  • Drive sales through effective merchandising, in-stock conditions, and product presentation
  • Monitor key metrics including sales, margin, shrink, and inventory turns
  • Control expenses including labor and product loss
  • Identify opportunities to improve department efficiency and profitability
Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures
  • Maintain proper handling and storage of regulated and over-the-counter products
  • Adhere to safety and sanitation standards across all areas
  • Support inventory audits and compliance checks
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous retail or general merchandise leadership experience preferred
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of merchandising, inventory systems, and product categories
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in stockrooms and on the sales floor

Pay Transparency:


Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay*, PTO/Vacation pay*, paid holidays*, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility).  Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. *For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.
