Position Summary

This position is in the Energy Department of the Energy Division and will work directly with the General Manager (GM) to support strategy development and corporate planning for Energy Div. Mitsui USA, in alignment with Mitsui Energy Segment’s global strategy.

The position is designed for a high-caliber professional who can act as a strategic co-pilot to the GM—combining rigorous analytics, independent leadership, and strong execution discipline to drive both strategy formulation and implementation.

The successful candidate will play a central role in shaping portfolio strategy, originating and advancing key investment opportunities, and delivering measurable commercial outcomes across the Gas Value Chain and Low Carbon Fuel businesses, with flexibility to shift focus based on strategic priorities.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy Development & Corporate Planning

  • Support General Manager in devising the strategy of the Energy Division in line with the global strategies of Mitsui Energy Segment.
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable business plans of the Energy Department, including portfolio optimization, capital allocation, and resource prioritization through scenario analysis, market assessments, and risk evaluation.

 

Portfolio Business Development

  • Identify, originate, and evaluate new business opportunities across both the Gas Value Chain and Low Carbon Fuel sectors.
  • Lead commercial and strategic assessments, including market analysis, competitive benchmarking, and financial modeling.
  • Structure and execute transactions, including partnerships, tolling arrangements, offtake with finance, and equity investments.
  • Independently lead key projects with end-to-end ownership from origination through execution.
  • Coordinate with global Mitsui teams and external partners to originate and progress projects and manage cross-functional teams (technical, commercial, legal, finance) with discipline on timeline, economics, and risk.
  • Drive internal approvals and stakeholder alignment across Mitsui’s global organization.
  • Flexibly allocate focus among Gas Value Chain, Low Carbon Fuel, and other energy related initiatives based on portfolio priorities, market opportunities, and strategic direction

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Knowledge Areas:

  • Undergraduate degree.
  • Strong understanding of energy value chains across oil, gas, LNG, and power, with awareness of Low Carbon Fuel / biofuel dynamics.
  • Proven experience in corporate strategy, investment evaluation, and portfolio optimization for large-scale energy/infrastructure assets.
  • Willingness and capability to explore opportunities independently.

 

 

Technical / Communication Skills:

  • Advanced analytical and financial modeling capabilities with strong proficiency in Excel and data tools in addition to the capability to use computer software, such as Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and other MS Office suites.
  • Good external and internal communication skills and ability to develop strong relationships with management of partners, Mitsui Group Companies, portfolio companies, and co-investors.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to a cross-cultural environment.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum ten (10) years working experience in energy sector.
