Summary

Aspen Surgical is seeking a results-oriented customer liaison to serve as an Instrument Implementation Specialist to assist in optimizing surgical instrument assets, lowering costs, and supporting initiatives across the Health System. The Instrument Implementation Specialist role requires an onsite presence in the customer’s facilities to deliver tactical execution of programs, services, projects, and tasks to drive significant value for both the customer and Aspen Surgical.

 

Reporting to the Region Director, the Instrument Implementation Specialist will play a key role interfacing with our strategic customer on a day-to-day basis adeptly working across functional teams (OR, SPD, and Supply Chain) to achieve specific goals, objectives, and tasks. The role requires exceptional working knowledge of surgical instruments and surgical process, analytical and communication skills with significant attention to detail.

 

In This Position, You Will Have the Opportunity To

  • Maximize instrument savings opportunities
  • Assist in evaluating existing surgical sets for condition and completeness. Identify and resolve missing instruments promptly to ensure set integrity and improve turnaround efficiency.
  • Integrate or assist in the integration of Aspen part codes into instrument tracking system(s)
  • Initiate and develop programs that incorporate continuous improvement. Review processes and identify opportunities for improvement and affect change
  • Manage and optimize capital, expense, and inventory budgets
  • Ensure all surgical count sheets remain accurate and current to prevent case delays and instrument errors.
  • Maintain peg board and drawer inventory. Keep sets organized, standardized, and fully stocked across departments, reducing lost time and variation between sites.
  • Review and make clinical recommendations to update surgical set contents and procedures for preparation of all instrument trays. This includes:
    • Meeting and verifying set contents with users
    • Creating updated product cards and listings
    • Acquiring new components for inventory
    • Arranging for training of staff on changes including user and distribution staff
  • Review purchase requests from all system hospitals to identify Aspen sourcing opportunities by cross-referencing all surgical instruments to affect conversions to Aspen Surgical instruments
    • Review cross-references for suitability
    • Engage necessary computer systems to provide accurate data
    • Input data
    • Engage Aspen organization to ensure correct product identification as needed
  • Track and report on contract purchasing compliance
  • Track and communicate instrument back-order status to prevent case interruptions and ensure continuity of supply.
  • Primary point of contact between the Customer and Aspen Surgical corporate for special projects related to Aspen Surgical’s Instrument Inventory Solutions
  • Liaison to Aspen headquarters, supply chain and distribution center
  • Support assigned Customer’s supply chain projects as needed

What You Need to Succeed in This Position

  • Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent preferred
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the OR or Sterile Processing Department
  • IAHSCMM Certification preferred
  • Ability to be onsite at assigned customer location(s) 80% of the time 
  • Analytical thinker with excellent attention to detail
  • Advanced capabilities with word processing, Excel and various computer/ERP systems
  • Strong on-time achievement orientation
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and report on findings
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with all levels of employees
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive arguments and technical presentations to customers, management and or large groups
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills
