Job Summary

Position responsible for planning, monitoring, reviewing, and controlling the operation and maintenance of the Physical Plant equipment and systems.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Associate degree in a technical trade, business, or related field preferred

Licenses/Certifications:  One of the following is preferred:

  • Certification and/or evidence of continuing education through Building Owners and Managers Institute (BOMI)

  • American Society of Healthcare Engineers (ASHE) or other recognized trade craft qualification such as System Maintenance Technician (SMT), System Maintenance Administrator (SMA), Mechanic Evaluation and Certification for Healthcare (MECH)

  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM)

  • Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) or similar facilities management qualification.

  • Licensure or certification in recognized building trade or craft such as stationary engineer, electronics, plumbing, HVAC Controls or related skilled craft.

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:  

Five (5) years of related experience required with one (1) year of supervisory experience preferred

Principal Accountabilities

•    Manages departmental personnel, including hiring, scheduling, training, counseling, evaluating performance, and administering disciplinary actions
•    Provides leadership and direction to operations support staff to ensure consistent, high-quality performance and adherence to established procedures.
•    Manages Central plant equipment to ensure facility utility consumption and energy efficiency performance indicator are maintained or enhanced within Energy Star efficiency benchmarks. 
•    Reviews hospital compliance with codes, rules and regulations pertaining to physical plant operation. Samples, tests, audits and prepares documentation for survey review and follow up.
•    Manages the continuous operations of the central utility plant and building features, to ensure optimal electricity, steam, air conditioning and other critical utilities are provided.to the hospital and other buildings in the complex. 
•    Prepares, monitors, and administers the department or section’s operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources.
•    Controls utility usage and supervises the operation of energy management systems and processes.
•    Oversees inventory of repair parts, supplies, tools, service agreements, and equipment to maximize equipment uptime while ensuring proper cost control.
•    Collaborates with other hospital departments, contractors, and vendors to coordinate capital upgrades, maintenance, repair, and construction activities
•    Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by management.
