Job Summary:
REV’s Energy Management team is responsible for the commercial optimization of a fleet of storage and renewable assets in wholesale power markets, primarily PJM, CAISO, and ISONE. Active management of the term position and dispatch returns value and experience to the development pipeline. The Energy Management Systems is a front-office platform function that provides a dependable platform for traders to build analytical and position management applications and for management to extract reports.
We are seeking a manager to assume ownership of the Energy Management Systems platform. This is a hybrid leadership / individual-contributor role that involves architecture, data engineering, systems operation, and training. The role keeps the system coherent, correct, and compliant, balancing speed with good friction, and providing resources and patterns to enable users to build what they need when they need it. Cross functional collaboration is key, in order to ensure consistent coding standards and infrastructure across the group.Â
In addition to the platform responsibilities, the role owns the trade capture, valuation, settlements, and position management foundation. These components provide stable reporting that captures trading and dispatch activities.
This front-office role in Houston supports a small, energy and technology-savvy trading team. Your users range from no-code and low-code users on dashboards and Excel plug-ins through to quantitative analysts and developers building full-featured applications. You will inherit a production system and be accountable for its daily operations, durability, security, refinement, and future growth.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and direct the Quant and Systems Developer: set priorities, own the development backlog, provide technical direction and performance feedback, and ensure the developer’s work aligns with platform architecture and controls standards.
- Support all platform users — from no-code dashboard consumers to quantitative developers — through hands-on 1-on-1 sessions; act as a knowledge hub to unblock work, share best practices, and raise the collective technical bar.
Hands-On Technical Contribution
- Own the integrity of the ETRM platform and remain an active individual contributor: personally design, build, and maintain core components including trade capture, position management, valuation, and risk analytics — setting the technical standard by example, not delegation alone.
- Own the core libraries and architecture; define and steward the guardrails, patterns, and standards that let users and AI agents build freely and safely while keeping the maintenance burden low.
- Review and approve all production-bound code changes, including those from the Quant and Systems Developer; validate logic, test coverage, and documentation before merge to main.
- Maintain and evolve software development best practices — merge controls, code review, testing, and documentation — and react decisively to production issues, code fixes, and ad-hoc priorities as they arise.
Governance, Security & Compliance
- Serve as the accountable owner for system governance: define and enforce change management, access provisioning, data classification, and audit-trail requirements in alignment with IT security policies, SOC controls, and any applicable NERC/FERC obligations.
- Mature the platform’s security and authorization model to enable granular access workflows and activity monitoring; enforce segregation-of-duties across all user types and environments.
- Own incident response and business continuity: triage production issues alongside the developer, maintain runbooks, communicate proactively to trading and management stakeholders during outages or data integrity events, and drive continuous improvement to reduce off-hours support needs.
- Act as the primary liaison between the front office (trading, structuring, analytics, quant) and IT; lead the cloud and infrastructure resource planning process by scoping, sizing, and approving compute, storage, and network requirements for the ETRM in partnership with IT.
Reporting & Analytics Integrity
- Establish and maintain transparent, automated information flows for portfolio position, dispatch analytics, and hedge reporting; ensure all pipelines produce outputs that are accurate, timely, and auditable by trading, risk, and finance.
Required Education/Skills/Knowledge:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Computer Science
- 10+ years of relevant experience, with demonstrated hands-on ownership of core ETRM components and a genuine appreciation for quality control, controls, and compliance.
- Strong quantitative developer background: proficiency in Python; experience manipulating and persisting time series data with dataframe libraries and columnar storage; data modeling and API development.
- Demonstrated ownership of production systems; working knowledge of security principles, segregation-of-duties, and access controls in an energy trading context.
- Earns trust across a wide spectrum of technical and non-technical stakeholders; strong communicator who can translate between front-office needs and IT/infrastructure teams.
- Ownership mentality, intellectual curiosity, and entrepreneurial drive; comfortable operating as both a manager and an individual contributor in a lean, high-expectations environment.
- Preferred: machine learning experience; Kubernetes/cloud-native DevOps (EKS, Helm, Docker); broad US power market and energy trading-product knowledge, power analytical capabilities.
Technology Platform
Our technical and business logic is specified in python and open-source libraries as follows:
- data model and relationships: python
- business rules by users: python, pandas, polars, internal utilities
- interfaces to external data and applications: python, selenium, sftp, https
- interfaces to internal data users and applications: fast api, python, streamlit
- orchestration of data pipelines: dagster
- front end application UIs, dashboards, and queries: streamlit, powerbi
Our logic and infrastructure are managed, deployed, and persisted as follows:
- source control with git third-party git host / actions
- environment specification with docker
- cloud deployment and scaling with kubernetes, helm, EKS
- windows deployment with WSL and/or conda
- data primarily in aws s3 with low-level query optimization across deployments
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit/stand at a desk, using a computer workstation.Â
- The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms, walk; lift push or pull objects up to 20 pounds.Â
- Must be able to handle long periods of screen time and typing.Â
- Must be able to have effective time management skills, with the ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
