Position Summary

We are looking for a qualified Materials & Welding Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX. This role provides technical expertise in welding, metallurgy, and materials engineering for Venture Global LNG projects, including the Calcasieu Pass (CP) and Plaquemines (PQ) facilities.

The successful candidate will support project activities throughout the engineering, construction, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness phases. This position is responsible for ensuring adherence to project requirements, engineering standards, industry regulations, and Basis of Design (BOD) criteria while contributing to the safe and reliable delivery of project objectives.

The Materials & Welding Engineer will work closely with internal stakeholders, EPC contractors, fabrication vendors, construction personnel, and operations teams to resolve technical issues and support overall project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and support related to materials engineering, metallurgy, and welding across LNG capital projects.
  • Assist with HAZOP action-item closure and support resolution of technical findings and recommendations.
  • Evaluate and respond to engineering inquiries, technical deviations, construction concerns, and welding-related documentation.
  • Partner with operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot materials and welding issues and identify corrective actions.
  • Verify compliance with applicable engineering standards, project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry codes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, commissioning, project management, and operations readiness teams to support project milestones.
  • Serve as a technical liaison with EPC firms, fabrication facilities, vendors, and contractors on welding, metallurgy, piping, and pressure-containing equipment matters.
  • Review and approve welding-related documentation, including WPSs, PQRs, welder qualification records, NDE requirements, and inspection reports.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control initiatives associated with welding and materials disciplines.
  • Participate in project reviews, inspections, audits, and cross-functional technical meetings as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Professional certifications in welding inspection, metallurgy, or related technical fields are viewed favorably.

Professional Experience

  • 5 to 7 years of experience in materials and welding engineering within LNG, oil and gas, petrochemical, refining, or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Prior experience supporting EPC projects, fabrication operations, and field construction activities is preferred.

Technical Skills & Competencies

  • Working knowledge of welding codes and standards, including AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, and API RP 582.
  • Familiarity with relevant design and construction codes such as ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, and ASME B31.8.
  • Understanding of applicable regulatory and safety requirements, including NFPA 59A and 49 CFR Part 193.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse technical teams.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple assignments and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities with a focus on practical technical solutions.
