This experience is essential for success in this position.   This is NOT a position for someone who has spent years leading HR teams and/or delegating HR work, and has been removed from day-to-day execution.   MUST RESIDE IN HOUSTON, TEXAS WORK IS MOSTLY REMOTE; REQUIRES OCCASIONAL TRAVEL LOCALLY     THE CHALLENGE AND THE OPPORTUNITY:  A child's earliest years shape every milestone that follows: school success, workforce readiness, and economic opportunity. PLEASE revisit the application to complete the Acknowledgement.QualificationsABOUT THIS POSITION: The HR Director will be required to seamlessly shift between executive-level planning and hand-on HR execution while supporting a mission-driven organization committed to excellence and impact. What makes this opportunity unique is that unlike many HR Director positions, we require an HR leader who is both strategic and an HR practitioner. You must be comfortable being the primary (and, only) HR resource while collaborating with executive leadership, general management, employees, external vendors, and the Board’s HR Committee. You will work hands-on with ALL aspects of HR – starting with managing the Candidate Experience and continuing into all aspects of cultivating an optimal Employee Experience, inclusive of a top-notch culture for a dispersed workforce of approximately 37 employees. You will ensure compliance with federal, state and local employment laws, as well develop and maintain policies, procedures and employment practices that reduce organizational risk. You will evaluate and administer compensation and benefits programs, as well as the performance management and talent development processes. You will champion organizational values and employee engagement initiatives to foster a work culture that promotes collaboration, respect, innovation, and continuous improvement.   WHO WOULD LIKELY THRIVE HERE – HR candidates who: Enjoy being both strategic and hands-on. Have recently worked in a lean HR environment where they personally handled all aspects of HR operations. Have recently worked in and are comfortable working in a primarily remote work arrangement Enjoy making decisions and solving complex issues independently. Possess the judgment, discretion, and emotional intelligence needed to build trust across all levels of the organization.   THE MUST HAVES: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in English, Human Resources, or a Business discipline preferred. Current SPHR or PHR, SHRM-SCP or SHRM-CP certification. Minimum of 8 years of progressive HR generalist experience with at least 2 years of recent experience working in a 1 or 2-person HR department. Recent leadership experience at the HR Manager or HR Director level. Demonstrated experience personally managing the full employee lifecycle from recruitment through separation. Strong knowledge of employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, HIPAA, and related compliance requirements. Demonstrated experience with HRIS systems and HR technology platforms. Possess intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, Teams)  Must be able to work a 40 hour, Monday – Friday schedule Schedule flexibility to accommodate occasional weekday evening hours Must have reliable, personal transportation because this position requires driving to different locations throughout the greater Houston area A valid Texas Driver’s License and current vehicle insurance coverage   NICE TO HAVES Nonprofit experience Paycom HRIS experience Compensation certification Experience leveraging AI and HR technology solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness   THE PERKS This position requires an extreme amount of self-determination because it is primarily remote work. You will control how you set up your work schedule. In-person activities for leadership meetings and all-staff events will be required. Monthly mileage reimbursement at the IRS rate for Collab-related business travel other than required meetings. Compensation: This is an Exempt, Salaried, Full-Time position. Pay will be determined based on HR experience relevant to this position. Pay dates are bi-weekly. Health and Supplemental Insurance: HDHP medical option that includes $1400/year employer-paid contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA), prorated based on hire date. Other voluntary insurance options: Dental, Vision, Voluntary Life/AD&D, Accident, and Critical Illness. Employer-paid STD, LTD, Basic Life/AD&D insurance. First of month after hire eligibility.
