Summary

In this senior level role, the painter is responsible for preparing, priming, and painting parts on our units. Responsibilities may include sandblasting, general housekeeping and performing a variety of projects as assigned.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

  • Be capable of performing all aspects of the Paint Department.
  • Ability to read paint specifications and understand them and other technical documents such as paint mixing procedures as required by the job of the Industrial Painter.
  • Selects paint according to company color scheme and specifications.
  • Apply paint, stain, varnish, enamel, and other finishes to heavy equipment using brushes, spray guns, sandblasting equipment, or rollers. May use epoxy, latex or enamel coatings.
  • Mix and match colors of paint, stain, or varnish with oil and thinning and drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistencies.
  • Respiratory protection is common and required in many applications.
  • Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. 
  • May train, lead, and direct others.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or 2 year technical/vocational training required.
  • Minimum of 1 – 8 years of direct industry experience required.
  • NACE Level 3 Certification desired.
  • Forklift operator experience required. 
  • Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. 
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. 
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation. 
  • Must be able to define surface preparation and coating systems to be applied.
  • Must know how to use paint gun and pot.
  • Have a keen understanding of how to mix paint (no runs, miss spots, sags, or drips).
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  • Work under limited supervision.
