JOB SUMMARY

Installs, inspects, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating water, gas, and drainage systems.  Maintains adequate and quality plumbing services throughout the district for clean and safe environments for staff and students.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Repairs and replaces all leaking faucets and all hardware in restrooms as scheduled.
2.    Repairs all broken pipes, underground and above ground. Cuts, bends, threads, and fits pipes with adjoining pipe assemblies.  Caulks leaks and opens clogged drains.  Installs sinks, showers, toilets, water heaters, and related plumbing fixtures.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED

3.    Conducts back flow testing and gas testing. May make minor repairs to holes in walls where access to plumbing has been made. Interprets blueprints and works from sketches or verbal instructions.
4.    Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.  Inspects completed work to ensure compliance with warranty and codes.
5.    Responds to all emergency plumbing calls.
6.    Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

WORK EXPERIENCE

3 to 5 years

SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION

Licensed Plumber
Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier), Hand tools (e.g., hammer, shovel, screwdriver), Power tools (e.g., radial saw, reciprocating saw, drill, pheunomatic hammer), Vehicles (e.g., automobile, truck, tractor, forklift)

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.

WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT

Work involves the application of moderately complex procedures and tasks that are quite varied. Independent judgment is often required to select and apply the most appropriate of available resources. Ongoing supervision is provided on an "as needed" basis.

BUDGET AUTHORITY

No budget development activity is required.

Decisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job's own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely.  There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures or services.

Errors are usually discovered in succeeding operations where most of the work is verified or checked and is normally confined to a single department or phase of the organizational activities resulting in brief inconvenience.

WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

Work involves continuous exposure to hazardous substances, potentially dangerous situations, and unpleasant work conditions such as adverse weather conditions or extreme risk of accidental or ill health.
Ability to carry and/or lift 45 pounds or more.
