Job Description
David Weekley Homes is seeking an experienced Product Owner for our Application Development team. This position is based at our Houston headquarters located in West Houston near the intersection of I-10 Katy Freeway and 610 W Loop N Freeway. This position will require frequent on-site presence in the Houston office.
We are looking for an experienced product owner who wants to share their knowledge and learn new skills in a fun, intense, and challenging environment. Qualified candidates will have the ability to learn and apply new methodologies.
If you understand the significance of the number 42; if you’ve ever dreamed of traveling in a blue British police box; if you are afraid of Winter coming; if more of your friends call you by your gamertag than your given name – there is a good chance you are a good fit for our team.
The Position-- You will be required to:
- Work within the development team to create, implement, and enhance internal systems and ensure high-quality solutions that meet business needs.
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with geographically dispersed teams through face-to-face, audio, and video conferencing to maintain alignment and drive work forward.
- Collaborate and coordinate with stakeholders, including customers, internal IT teams, and executives, to understand customer and business needs.
- Integrate stakeholder perspectives to effectively define and prioritize requirements, ensuring development efforts remain focused on delivering business value.
- Plan and coordinate development work across UX and development teams, establishing priorities, sequencing work, aligning cross-functional team members, and resolving issues to ensure teams have the clarity and direction needed to effectively deliver results.
- Manage the release of new features and enhancements, coordinating readiness, timing, dependencies, and communication with development teams and business stakeholders.
- Review and evaluate systems and solutions to ensure adherence to company business rules and customer quality standards.
- Communicate project, product, and release updates to Team Members at all levels of the company.
- Anticipate risks, dependencies, and obstacles that could impact successful delivery and escalate or coordinate resolution as appropriate.
The Candidate:Â We are looking for:
- A versatile problem solver. On any given day, you may be researching a business process, defining product requirements, exploring solutions to a business challenge, meeting with customers, collaborating with UX and developers, testing a new feature, or digging into data to better understand a problem or opportunity.
- Strong product ownership skills. You understand how to maximize the value of a product and the development team.
- Strong planning and prioritization skills. You can turn product goals and business needs into an actionable plan, manage competing priorities and dependencies, and keep cross-functional teams aligned on what needs to happen next.
- Software development lifecycle knowledge. You understand how products move from discovery and design through development, testing, release, and ongoing enhancement. You are comfortable adapting your approach to the needs of the product and team rather than relying on a single development framework.
- An effective communicator. You believe you learn more by listening than talking. You can effectively communicate verbally and in writing including formal presentations to developers, non-technical peers and executives.Â
- A good fit with our team. We need someone the team can trust, rely on, bounce ideas off of, and interact with positively and professionally. You value collaboration, welcome different perspectives, and help the people around you succeed.
- An incredibly hard worker. You take ownership of your responsibilities and reliably see work through to completion without requiring constant direction. You know when to ask for help, communicate risks and bad news early, and look for opportunities to contribute beyond the task immediately in front of you.
Qualifications
The Technical-- You need to have or know:
- The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with developers, UX professionals, customers, business stakeholders, and leaders at varying levels of technical expertise.
- Knowledge and experience with software product development practices with an understanding of how to identify and prioritize work that delivers meaningful business and customer value.
- Experience translating business and customer needs into clear, actionable product requirements and acceptance criteria that enable UX and development teams to effectively design, build, and deliver solutions.

- Experience using analytical skills, tools, and techniques, including AI-enabled tools, to investigate issues, interpret data, evaluate opportunities, improve efficiency, and inform product decisions.

- The capacity to thrive in a flexible and dynamic environment, contributing to a high-performance, driven corporate culture.
It would be nice for you to have or know:
- Scrum Product Owner role
