Renewable Energy Tax Associate (7+ years) | Houston | Tax credit deals

Our AmLaw 100 client is hiring a senior associate for a renewable energy-focused transactional tax seat in Houston. The work is deal-driven, incentive-heavy, and tied directly to projects getting financed and built.

Role summary
You will work with a transactional tax team supporting renewable energy and energy transition matters across major technologies, including tax structuring, diligence, and execution support from term sheet through closing.

What you will do
• Advise on “begin construction” issues and related qualification questions for energy credits under IRC Sections 45 and 48
• Counsel on prevailing wage and apprenticeship requirements tied to credit eligibility and economics
• Support M&A and joint ventures involving renewable assets and platforms
• Work on tax equity financings and tax credit transfer transactions, including deal documentation support and issue-spotting through diligence
• Contribute to tax opinions as needed (experience helpful, not mandatory)

Candidate profile
• 7+ years in a law firm or Big 4 tax practice focused on energy, infrastructure, project finance, or tax credit transactions
• Hands-on exposure to at least some combination of tax equity, credit transfers, credit qualification, or renewable project M&A/JVs
• Strong academic credentials; LL.M. in Tax is strongly preferred per the client’s spec
