We design, manufacture, install, and service high-impact signage solutions for commercial properties nationwide. We are seeking a dedicated Sander to join our Fabrication team in Houston and ensure the flawless preparation of all sign components for the painting and finishing process. Job Summary: The Sander is an essential role responsible for the meticulous preparation and finishing of various sign components (metal, acrylic, and plastic) to achieve a flawless surface ready for paint, vinyl, or final finishing. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, proficiency with various sanding equipment, and a dedication to upholding the company's high quality standards. Core Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Sander will focus on achieving superior surface quality and maintaining efficient workflow: Surface Preparation & Finishing: Prepare and smooth surfaces of sign parts—including channel letters, cabinets, and monument components—using hand-held, rotary, and orbital sanders. Select and utilize the correct grit of sandpaper, abrasive materials, and tools based on the material (e.g., aluminum, acrylic) and the desired finish. Meticulously remove weld seams, burrs, scratches, imperfections, and excess filler (such as Bondo or plastic filler) to ensure a seamless surface ready for the paint booth. Quality Control & Material Application: Apply filler compound and other materials as needed to achieve a smooth contour and repair minor surface defects before final sanding. Inspect completed parts for smoothness, consistency, and adherence to quality specifications and blueprints. Clean and prepare sanded surfaces for painting, ensuring dust and debris are completely removed. Equipment and Safety: Perform routine checks, cleaning, and basic maintenance on sanding equipment and hand tools. Strictly adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as respirators, safety glasses, and gloves. Maintain a clean and organized work station to facilitate efficient production and safety. QualificationsExperience & Qualifications We are seeking a reliable and detail-focused individual with the following qualifications: Education: High School Diploma or GED is required. Experience: 1+ years of proven experience in sanding, finishing, or surface preparation, preferably within the signage, automotive, woodworking, or metal fabrication industries. Technical Skills: Proven proficiency in operating various pneumatic and electric sanding tools. Must be able to accurately read shop drawings and work orders to identify required finishes. Certifications: No specific certifications required, but knowledge of OSHA safety standards for manufacturing environments is a plus. Soft Skills: Exceptional attention to detail, strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, and a dedication to quality craftsmanship are critical. Physical and Workplace Demands Must be able to frequently lift, carry, and move materials up to 50 pounds. Required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for prolonged periods. Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, and fumes (while using appropriate PPE). Must consistently use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
