Position Overview
The Estimator is responsible for preparing competitive and compliant cost estimates to secure public and private heavy civil construction projects. This role requires demonstrated experience in roadway, drainage, and site development estimating and a strong understanding of bid strategy, constructability, and cost control.
This is not an entry‑level position. Candidates must bring proven heavy civil estimating experience and the ability to lead and collaborate across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and secure bid opportunities, plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for roadway, drainage, and site development work
- Analyze subcontractor and material supplier quotes for accuracy and risk
- Prepare complete, accurate, and competitive bids for submission
- Identify constructability issues and value‑engineering opportunities
- Ensure compliance with MBE/DBE/SBE requirements, including utilization plans
- Attend and participate in pre‑bid and pre‑construction meetings
- Maintain relationships with owners, agencies, and representatives
- Prepare estimate turnovers and support project managers post‑award
- Review job costs for competitiveness, marketability, and profitability
- Price and manage change orders, including detailed backup documentation
- Promote and enforce company safety policies and OSHA compliance
- Assist with purchase orders, subcontracts, and field work orders as needed
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of experience as a Heavy Civil Estimator
- At least 2 years of direct experience in heavy highway, paving, and concrete estimating
- Strong knowledge of construction math, geometry, and trigonometry
- Ability to interpret and estimate from complex plans and specifications
- Experience with public works contracts and regulatory compliance
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written English)
- Team‑oriented with strong attention to detail and accountability
- Valid Texas Driver’s License with a clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven track record of winning bids
- Experience working with MBE/DBE/SBE programs
- Ability to identify cost risks and constructability challenges early
- Professional, courteous, and safety‑focused mindset
