This Senior Fundamental Trading Analyst supports MPC’s Global Supply Trading and Origination organization by delivering high‑impact crude and heavy products market analytics that directly inform trading, origination, and planning decisions. The role owns end‑to‑end crude and heavy products fundamental analysis, including global supply‑demand balances, flow dynamics, and quality economics, and translates complex market signals into timely, actionable insights embedded within commercial workflows. The role also supports enterprise fundamental analytics strategy by helping standardize balance construction, market data governance, and scalable analytical methodologies across crude and heavy products.Â

Primary ObjectivesÂ
Provide decision‑grade crude and heavy products market analytics that directly support trading, origination, and supply optimizationÂ
Own and continuously enhance crude, differential, and quality datasets to ensure analytical integrity and commercial relevanceÂ
Partner closely with traders, schedulers, and origination teams to integrate analytics into day‑to‑day execution and strategic positioningÂ
Build deep expertise in global crude fundamentals, refinery economics, and structural market driversÂ
Collaborate with quantitative analytics and other commodity trading analysts to enhance market insights, apply advanced analytical techniques, and establish consistent commercial analytics best practicesÂ
Establish and maintain consistent crude and heavy products balance methodology, data standards, and model governance practices across analyst workflowsÂ
Key Responsibilities Â
Maintain global crude and heavy productssupply‑demand and balance models, monitoring production, refining demand, inventory trends, and global crude and heavy productsflowsÂ
Analyze differentials, quality impacts, and arbitrage opportunities, providing proactive ad‑hoc analytics based on current market dynamicsÂ
Deliver timely insights and market intelligence to trading, scheduling, and origination teams to support commercial decision‑makingÂ
Ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity across market databases, models, and reporting outputsÂ
Support the development and governance of centralized gold data standards for crude and heavy products fundamentals, improving transparency, consistency, and reliability across models and reporting.Â
Coordinate with Commercial Analytics, trading, technology, and data teams to translate business requirements into scalable balance models, data pipelines, and analytical tools.Â
Drive continuous improvement in balance construction, data quality controls, model documentation, and repeatable analytical workflows.Â
Provide regular market updates and forward‑looking analysis highlighting risks, opportunities, and structural shiftsÂ
Support Supply Trading and Origination in identifying new commercial opportunities and evolving market dislocationsÂ
Translate complex market dynamics into actionable strategies using modeling, visualization, and analytical toolsÂ
Distill complex analysis into clear, concise insights and communicate effectively with commercial and cross‑functional partnersÂ
Role Scope and DevelopmentÂ
This role is designed as a key development position within Supply Trading and Origination Analytics. The analyst will work in close partnership with traders and commercial leadership, gaining direct exposure to trading decisions, market structure, risk themes, and the analytical workflows that support commercial execution. Through day‑to‑day collaboration and periodic trading coverage responsibilities, the analyst will build practical commercial judgment and execution experience alongside core analytical ownership.Â
Education and ExperienceÂ
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, Marine or related discipline required.Â
Five (5) or more years of experience in Commercial, Risk, Trading Analytics, Marine, Scheduling, or Marketing required.Â
Experience in crude oil trading analytics, physical commodity markets, supply optimization, refinery economics, or related commercial analytics rolesÂ
Preferred Experience:Â
Working knowledge of commodity supply and demand fundamentals, including production, refining, inventories, and global flowsÂ
Experience analyzing commoditydifferentials, quality impacts, and regional pricing benchmarksÂ
Advanced Excel skills for analytical modeling and scenario analysisÂ
Familiarity with data visualization or analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platformsÂ
Working knowledge of SQL, Python, or comparable tools used for data analysisÂ
Experience developing or governing commodity balance models, market data standards, analytical methodologies, or enterprise-scale commercial analytics workflows.Â
