JOB OVERVIEW:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for the supervision of all engineering and design activities associated with the Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering groups. The Manager will delegate project work, ensure accurate and efficient execution of work, assist with proposals, and serve as technical advisor.

Candidate should have worked in an equivalent role or as a lead mechanical or process engineer in the oil & gas, LNG production and handling, refinery, or petrochemical industries.

Candidate should have a broad understanding of upstream and midstream oil & gas production, gathering, processing, treating, and transportation facilities. The Manager will be responsible for understanding and applying government regulations, industry codes, client specifications/procedures, and best practices in the pursuit of safe and efficient solutions for clients.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assign and supervise engineers in the execution of project work.
  • Define requirements for design of equipment on offshore and onshore oil & gas production facilities.
  • Provide input for cost estimates and scopes of work for proposals. Ensure the RFP is understood and deliverables are clear.
  • Ensure the overall quality and technical accuracy associated with deliverables produced by all team members
  • Serve as technical advisor and facilitate communication around complex interdepartmental or project assignments.
  • Check drawings and calculations produced by direct reports, as required.
  • Coordinate with drafting and piping in preparation of mechanical and process drawings.
  • Provide engineering calculations for sizing and selection of equipment.
  • Prepare various studies associated with selection of equipment.
  • Prepare specifications and datasheets for various equipment.
  • Prepare general arrangement drawings for the platform or facilities.
  • Prepare Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&IDs) as required to define the facility design.
  • Coordinate work with other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide a basis for and execute engineering calculations for sizing and selection of equipment.
  • Oversee preparation of equipment specifications, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations. 
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A registered professional engineer in the United States and willing to obtain licensure in more than 1 state
  • BS in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • 15+ years of experience in mechanical or process engineering activities.
  • Minimum years of experience in design of facilities and various mechanical/process equipment (vessels, pumps, heat exchangers).
  • Familiar with the ANSI, NFPA, ASME, ASTM, AWS, ISO, NACE and OSHA standards. 
  • Ability to provide practical guidance and interpretations of industry codes and standards.
  • Understand the fundamental principles behind rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines)
  • Experience in companies providing engineering services to the Chemical, Refining and Petrochemical industry 
  • Familiarity with vendors/suppliers normally used in fabrication of oil and gas equipment, materials and fabrication along the Gulf Coast, Eagle Ford, and Permian Basin
  • Experience must cover the area of conceptual engineering, FEED (Front End Engineering Design), detail design and consultation

PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • An NCEES professional engineering record is a plus as well as being registered in any of TX, LA, NM
  • Minimum two years of experience in design of offshore projects, preferred
  • Experience in design of LNG and/or cryogenic facilities is a plus
  • Experience in design of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facilities is a plus
  • Experience in CO2 capture and storage is a plus

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP(S): 

  • Reports to the Vice President of Technical Services
