Position Summary

The Senior Principal Engineer – Electrical is responsible for leading and supporting the development of electrical engineering deliverables across complex projects in LNG, Energy Transition, Carbon Capture, Refining, and Petrochemical facilities. This role involves ownership of advanced electrical design activities, including power system studies, equipment specifications, and detailed engineering deliverables.

The position provides technical leadership across PDP, FEED, and detailed engineering phases, supporting project planning, scope development, scheduling, and execution. The Senior Principal Engineer plays a key role in guiding engineering teams, ensuring technical accuracy, and maintaining alignment with project requirements, industry standards, and overall project objectives.

 

Key Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities

  • Produce and support development of electrical deliverables, including:
  • Electrical power studies (load flow, short circuit, motor starting, protective relay coordination studies)
  • Electrical area classification drawings
  • One-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring design
  • Lighting, power, grounding, and cable tray plan drawings
  • Specifications of electrical equipment such as Motor Control Centers and Switchgear in petrochemical plants
  • Develop project scope of work for electrical engineering and design
  • Establish engineering and design concepts and ensure technical accuracy and conformance to project requirements
  • Prepare and review design data and deliverables from various inputs
  • Perform complex and sophisticated electrical design work in accordance with company standards
  • Coordinate design criteria and details with other engineering disciplines
  • Review vendor documents and evaluate technical solutions, cost, and schedules
  • Apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and applicable codes

 

Leadership / Management Responsibilities 

  • Lead and/or support a team of Electrical Engineers and Electrical Designers on PDP, FEED, and Detail Engineering projects 
  • Train and mentor less experienced engineers 
  • Supervise, check, and assist electrical personnel in their assignments 
  • Monitor project progress, update schedules, and manage staffing needs and budgets 
  • Advise Department Manager on major project changes

 

Compliance / Operational Responsibilities 

  • Ensure conformance to project requirements, engineering standards, and applicable codes 
  • Prepare project scope deviation documentation as required 
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work 
  • Ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency across all engineering deliverables

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 15+ years of experience in LNG, Energy Transition, Carbon Capture, Refining and/or Petrochemical plant engineering/design

 

Role Specific Knowledge & Skills

  • Extensive expertise in electrical engineering design and deliverables for industrial and petrochemical facilities
  • Experience performing electrical power system studies and specifying major electrical equipment
  • Strong knowledge of applicable engineering codes and standards
  • Ability to lead engineering efforts across complex, multidisciplinary projects
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
