The Senior Project Architect will be responsible for managing JRMA’s Houston Architectural group including mentoring, training, and technical design oversight. In addition to architectural group management responsibilities, the individual will have a balanced responsibility between project management/leadership and business development activities. The ratio of those two activities will be based on the individual’s skill set, experience, and connections within Texas and the region.

 

This role will be part of the company’s overall Architectural Department leadership team with primary reporting to the Director of Architecture and collaboration with the JRMA Market Sector (Commercial/Industrial/Manufacturing, Aviation, Solid Waste) Directors.

 

The Senior Project Architect will join an employee-owned company (ESOP), with a strong culture of success, design excellence, and industry leadership in our three primary market sectors.


Minimum Requirements
•  Architectural Licensure in the State of Texas or eligible for reciprocity.
•  Minimum of 15 years of experience in production, project management, and coordination of design documents          and design team leadership.
•  Experience with projects in at least one of the following markets: Manufacturing, Industrial, General Aviation,              Food & Beverage, Energy, or complimentary industrial market.
•  Experience with scope and fee proposals and business development activities.


Preferred Requirements
•  Education: Architectural degree from an accredited university or equivalent demonstrated proficiency.
•  NCARB certification.
•  Prior experience leading or growing a regional office or practice.


Role Responsibilities and Activities


Houston Architecture Group Leadership
•  Lead regional Architectural staff with an entrepreneurial spirit for growing the Houston Architectural Department.
•  Participate in weekly architectural workload meetings and quarterly all-company workload meetings.
•  Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical training to architectural staff in the Houston office.
•  Provide senior oversight and QA/QC of architectural design work performed in the office.
•  Coordinate with other JRMA leadership and offices (Portland, OR and Brea, CA) to ensure Houston staff is                  meeting project deadlines and is utilized on billable project work.
•  Responsible for staff recruitment, development, and retention.


Marketing and Business Development
•  Establish productive working relationships, and deal effectively with clients, consultants, and equipment vendors.
•  Develop and negotiate scopes of work, fees, and contractual terms for project opportunities. 
•  Coordinate business development strategy with Commercial, Industrial, and Manufacturing (CIM)                              sector leadership and provide support to Solid Waste/Aviation as necessary.
•  Carry out business development activities with new and existing clients as well as key partners to develop                  project opportunities in CIM market sector.
•  Provide business development support (secondary to CIM) for JRMA’s Aviation and Solid Waste sectors. 
•  Leverage existing industrial relationships to create marketing opportunities for the company.
•  Attend conventions, professional association events, and trade shows with the intent of representing the firm              and making new prospect connections.


Project Management and Architectural Design
•  Review design documents to ensure quality, coordination, and alignment with both company and professional design standards as well as serve as architect of record on select projects.
•  Provide project and client management services to clients throughout the duration of planning and                            design projects.  
•  Utilize existing JRMA project management tools to deliver excellent project financial results.
•  Provide design input related to manufacturing or industrial process integration.
•  Utilize collaboration software tools e.g. Bluebeam® and BIM360®.
•  Write and edit specifications.


Measures of Success
•  Growth of Houston architectural backlog and client base.
•  Development and retention of a high-performing team.
•  Delivery of profitable, high-quality projects.
•  Strengthened presence in Texas and surrounding states (as applicable) for markets supported by JRMA.
