Position SummaryÂ
The Staff Accountant partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer to manage the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal control environment. This role is central to keeping our financial records accurate, strengthening the processes and controls behind them, and delivering the P&L insight leadership needs to make sound business decisions.Â
We're looking for someone who takes ownership readily, works well without close supervision, and thrives in a fast-moving construction/manufacturing setting. This is a great fit for an accounting professional ready to build toward a senior controllership career. They will touch all layers of the accounting functions. The Executive team leads by teaching, not tasking. This role will be developed, not just managed.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Support the CFO with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processesÂ
- Prepare and analyze profit & loss (P&L) statements, identifying variances, trends, and areas for improvementÂ
- Develop, document, and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting and accounting processesÂ
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activitiesÂ
- Oversee general ledger accuracy, account reconciliations, and journal entriesÂ
- Coordinate with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll to ensure accurate, timely financial data across the organizationÂ
- Support job costing and cost accounting analysis for manufacturing and construction operationsÂ
QualificationsÂ
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field requiredÂ
- CPA preferred but not requiredÂ
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experienceÂ
- At least 3 years of experience in manufacturing, construction, or a related industryÂ
- Strong P&L analysis and financial statement preparation skillsÂ
- Solid grounding in internal controls, process design, and complianceÂ
- Comfortable taking initiative and managing competing priorities with minimal day-to-day directionÂ
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, or similar platforms)Â
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft applicationsÂ
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail and accuracyÂ
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work directly with executive leadershipÂ
- Willingness to start remote and transition to a hybrid schedule in the Houston, TX areaÂ
Preferred ExperienceÂ
- Experience supporting multi-entity or multi-location accounting operationsÂ
- Experience supporting external audit preparation and CPA firm relationshipsÂ
- Job costing experience in a construction or manufacturing environmentÂ
- Process improvement or system implementation experienceÂ
