Position Summary

The Used Vehicle Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and reconditioning pre-owned vehicles to dealership standards. This role ensures all used inventory is mechanically sound, safe, and ready for retail sale while meeting production timelines and quality expectations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•    Perform comprehensive mechanical inspections on used vehicles.

•    Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, suspension, steering, brake, electrical, HVAC, and drivability concerns.

•    Complete manufacturer-recommended maintenance and scheduled services.

•    Perform used vehicle reconditioning according to dealership standards.

•    Replace worn or defective parts and components.

•    Conduct multi-point inspections and document repair recommendations.

•    Perform road tests before and after repairs to verify proper operation.

•    Ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.

•    Accurately document repairs, labor time, and parts used.

•    Communicate repair needs and vehicle status with service advisors and management.

•    Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

•    Properly maintain shop equipment and tools.

•    Meet productivity, efficiency, and quality performance goals.

Qualifications

•    High school diploma or GED preferred.

•    2+ years of automotive technician experience preferred.

•    Experience diagnosing and repairing multiple vehicle makes and models.

•    ASE certifications preferred.

•    Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

•    Ability to operate diagnostic equipment and scan tools.

•    Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•    Strong understanding of automotive mechanical and electrical systems.

•    Ability to accurately diagnose vehicle concerns.

•    Knowledge of manufacturer repair procedures and industry best practices.

•    Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.

•    Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

•    Excellent organizational and communication skills.

•    Commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction.

Physical Requirements

•    Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

•    Ability to work in a shop environment with varying temperatures.

•    Ability to safely operate lifts, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

•    Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Experience

•    Experience in a dealership service department.

•    ASE Master Technician certification is a plus.

•    Experience using dealership management systems and digital inspection software.

•    Experience with hybrid and electric vehicle maintenance is a plus.

Performance Expectations

•    Complete reconditioning work within established turnaround times.

•    Produce high-quality repairs with minimal comebacks.

•    Maintain productivity and efficiency goals established by the dealership.

•    Follow all safety policies and procedures.
