Based in Houston, Texas, OxyChem’s Power & Energy Group manages a diverse portfolio of cogeneration facilities and oversees significant electrical loads across the United States. Operating at the intersection of market strategy and technical excellence, the team maintains continuous engagement with both MISO and ERCOT, ensuring seamless operational compliance with all ISO protocols. We are seeking an experienced Asset Manager to join our OxyChem power team. The Asset Manager performs a wide variety of managerial, commercial, technical, and financial tasks related to increasing the profitability, reliability, efficiency, and competitiveness of three power generation facilities; Ingleside Cogeneration and Battleground Cogeneration in the ERCOT market, and Taft Cogeneration in the MISO market.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Work with the plant managers to optimize plant safety, environmental, maintenance, and operations performance and profitability.
  • Oversee the cogeneration businesses with a focus on maximizing reliability and revenue while mitigating cost and risk.
  • Make critical business and risk decisions, drive cogeneration team management goals and priorities, and lead the long-term vision for the cogeneration business.
  • Lead cogeneration capital investment vision and strategy.
  • Negotiate Cogeneration contracts with the OEM, outside contractors, customers, suppliers, and lenders.
  • Lead and oversee cogeneration outage downtime, cost, resources, parts and scope planning and execution, provide on-site and shop leadership, and provide advocacy on behalf of the site with OEM executive leadership to escalate issues.
  • Participate in technical discussions with Cogen leadership, the OEM and other vendors regarding unit performance, operational risks, upgrades, major scope, and part repair/replacement.
  • Assists in the development of operating and project budgets and monthly reporting on plant variances.
  • Involved with the development, financial modeling, and implementation of initiatives for profit enhancements and capital projects.
  • Maintain a strong industry influence and network, and keep tabs on new technologies
  • Work closely with internal and external regulatory, marketing, legal, engineering, tax, treasury, fuel supply, and insurance personnel on generation matters
  • Ensure that the Cogen business is in full compliance with NERC standards

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline and 5+ years of experience in industry, at least 3 years of which is experience in operations, maintenance, or engineering of generating or production facilities.  Some management experience is a must.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • Excellent analytical skills (business, technical, and financial).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to edit and compose reports and correspondence and to present asset results articulately.
  • Must have the ability to work independently.
  • Some travel required for meetings with plant personnel, customers, vendors, and others, estimated at less than one week per month

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in power generation maintenance and/or operations.
  • MBA
