The Welding Lead provides daily technical leadership and guidance to the welding team. This position ensures welding operations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), quality standards, and production schedules. The Welding Lead serves as a technical resource, coaches team members, and supports the Supervisor in achieving departmental goals.Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the daily activities of the welding team.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately, including sign-offs, weld maps, consumable records, and production documentation.
- Verify all welding is performed in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and required welding parameters.
- Monitor weld quality throughout production and address quality concerns promptly.
- Train, mentor, and coach team members on welding techniques, equipment operation, safe work practices, and quality expectations.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, identification, and inventory of welding consumables.
- Coordinate daily workflow and communicate production priorities with the Supervisor.
- Ensure employees have the tools, equipment, consumables, and materials needed to perform assigned work.
- Promote a safe, clean, and organized work environment while ensuring compliance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate equipment issues, production delays, quality concerns, and material shortages to the Supervisor.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and a commitment to quality.
- Minimum 5 years of welding experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Ability to read blueprints, weld symbols, fabrication drawings, and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Strong knowledge of welding processes, welding equipment, consumables, and quality standards.
- Previous experience leading, training, or mentoring employees preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, fumes, and other manufacturing conditions.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including a welding helmet, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
- Ability to safely operate welding equipment, overhead cranes, forklifts (if certified), and other material handling equipment as required.
