The Opportunity:

The Cost Estimator, Offshore Wind is responsible to produce cost estimates related to offshore wind work, such as subsea rock installation and other offshore wind related scopes.. This role includes the review and summarizing of project plans and specifications prior to tender, and the presentation of the project & estimate during tender review sessions with management. The position reports to the Estimating Manager, Offshore Wind.

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation is the largest provider of dredging services in the United States as well as having a long history of performing significant international projects. In addition, Great Lakes is fully engaged in the rapidly developing offshore wind market in the U.S. Our first step in this effort is the investment into the build of the first U.S.-flagged Jones Act-compliant, Subsea Rock Installation (SRI) Vessel for wind turbine foundations. Currently under construction, the SRI Acadia will set new standards for efficiency and innovation with its large capacity, accurate placement technology and cutting-edge battery and alternative fuel systems. This unique, technologically advanced vessel is an essential step towards building the marine infrastructure required for this new industry, which holds so much promise for our nation economically and environmentally. 


The Company employs experienced civil, ocean and mechanical engineering staff in its estimating, production and project management functions. In its over 135-year history, the Company has never failed to complete a marine project. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Great Lakes owns and operates the largest and most diverse fleet in the U.S. dredging industry, comprised of approximately 200 specialized vessels. Qualifications:

  • College level degree 
  • Experience preferred:
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in the marine industry (offshore wind, offshore oil & gas, dredging and/or marine construction)
  • 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in cost estimating
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Excel; proficient in other Microsoft Office programs
  • Effective communicator and attentive listener
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Self-starter, willing to learn, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Excellent skills in planning and organization, as well as verbal and written communication


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce accurate cost estimates for offshore wind projects including subsea rock installation and related works
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and projects 
  • Review and summarize project plans and specifications prior to tender submission
  • Ability to produce clear, concise overview materials for presentation and discussion
  • Ability to present the scope of works and the estimate during tender review sessions with Management
  • Work closely with the Commercial Team, Project Managers, Production, and Purchasing Departments in the assembly of the cost estimate
  • Offer estimating support to on-site Project Team during execution of project
  • Work with the Project Team and Accounting Department to help update project budgets and ensure project costs are recorded appropriately
  • Ability to meet deadlines
