An Electrical Engineer II (EE II) applies developing expertise to a variety of electrical engineering tasks for midstream/facilities oil & gas projects. This role involves taking on more responsibility for specific electrical system designs, conducting detailed analyses, and contributing significantly to project deliverables. This position performs more independent work while still benefiting from senior guidance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performance of detailed electrical design and specification development for power distribution, motor control centers (MCCs), and switchgear.
- Conduct of engineering calculations for power requirements, voltage drop, short circuit, and cable sizing.
- Development of single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Preparation of equipment data sheets, inquiry requisitions, and technical specifications for electrical components.
- Assistance in the resolution of technical issues during design, procurement, and construction phases.
- Ensures all designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards (e.g., NEC, IEEE, API), and client requirements.
- Coordination of electrical design aspects with other disciplines and vendors.
- Participation in HAZOP and other safety reviews related to electrical systems.
- Some travel may be required.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Solid understanding of electrical power systems, motor control, and hazardous area classifications.
- Knowledge of electrical design software and CAD design software. (ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD, Electrical)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Strong understanding of industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, API RP 500/505, IEEE 141/399).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Team player – able to communicate and relate well with others.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional lifting of office supplies or equipment up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to move around the office for daily tasks and meetings, and job site visits, when required.
