Job Overview

Weatherford is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Supplier Quality Engineer to join the team in Houston, TX. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for supplier qualifications, improvement plans, audits, performance monitoring, and developing key suppliers towards achieving excellence. You will collaborate closely with various departments, including Sourcing, Category Management, Engineering, Product Lines, and Manufacturing, to ensure the successful implementation and continuous improvement of our Supplier Quality program.

Requirements:

  • Interpret engineering data, including blueprints, Bills of Material, and specifications, as well as customer requirements.
  • Define inspection test plans and quality plans for manufacturing, sourcing, or customer contracts.
  • Ensure a compliant and qualified supply base through supplier evaluations, qualifications, scorecards, improvement action plans, and audits.
  • Review customer/project specifications and identify quality requirements.
  • Implement quality inspection and testing requirements.
  • Arrange supplier quality inspections using internal resources or third-party inspectors.
  • Develop positive relationships and work closely with Engineering, Sourcing, Manufacturing, and shop floor personnel to manage and implement supplier and engineering changes.
  • Ensure Corrective and Preventative Action Reports (CPARs) are prepared, completed with sufficient depth, and actions are monitored through to effective closure.

This role involves a combination of office and field work, with frequent travel (50-75%) and potential international mobility. The work atmosphere includes both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to shop floors and supplier sites.

Experience Required:

  • 8+ years of experience in Quality or Engineering (with Quality focus) in an industrial-related business.
  • 8+ years of Supplier Quality experience is preferred.
  • 5+ years of knowledge in ISO 9001 and API standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with third parties, supplier qualifications, and audits.

Qualifications/Certifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and API standards.
  • Root Cause Analysis Incident Investigation Training, Failure Mode, Effects and Critical Analysis (FMEAC) / TapRoot experience is preferred.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical notes, procedures, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of various welding processes and materials.
  • Working knowledge of recognized standards and codes such as ASME, AWS, API, ASTM, NACE, ISO, etc.
  • Knowledge of NDT methods such as PAUT, MT, US, ToFD, LP.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, judgment, leadership, root-cause analysis, and team collaboration skills.
  • Internal auditing experience.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to coordinate with customers and third-party inspectors.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills with suppliers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with critical thinking skills

Travel Required:

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 50-75% of the time.
