Niyam is seeking a UI/UX Developer to join our team in support of our work with a federal client. This role involves designing intuitive, user-centered digital experiences for both legacy and modernized systems while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will bring a strong balance of creative design expertise, technical awareness, and leadership ability to deliver high-quality, accessible, and scalable solutions aligned with mission objectives. This full-time position will be hybrid to Ashburn, VA 1-2 days/week.Â
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate effectively within an Agile, cross-functional team, partnering with developers, product owners, business stakeholders, and other team members to deliver high-quality user experiences.
- Design, develop, and maintain responsive, accessible, and user-centered interfaces that meet business objectives and user needs.
- Lead the creation and implementation of a consistent look-and-feel, ensuring a standardized and intuitive user experience across multiple applications.
- Create innovative, user-focused design solutions that align with client business goals while enhancing usability and overall customer experience.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define, develop, and maintain experience style guides, interaction patterns, information architecture, and design standards.
- Produce wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and other design artifacts to effectively communicate concepts, validate ideas, and support development efforts.
- Establish, maintain, and evolve reusable UI component libraries, layouts, and style standards to promote consistency and efficiency across applications.
- Work closely with business and functional teams to evaluate the feasibility of requirements, recommend design improvements, and ensure solutions meet both user and technical needs.
- Ensure the quality, accuracy, and timely delivery of UI/UX solutions by identifying and resolving issues, providing technical guidance, and communicating project status and progress to stakeholders.
- Independently manage assigned work within an Agile software development environment, leveraging tools and practices such as Jira, Confluence, GitLab, unit testing, and automated testing frameworks.
- Mentor and support junior team members by providing technical guidance, sharing best practices, and fostering professional growth.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- US Citizenship with ability to obtain a Public Trust.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as Interactive Design, Architecture, Industrial Design, Graphic Design or Human Factors.
- 5+ years of professional experience in UI/UX design, visual design, interaction design, or related roles.
- Must be able to work on-site in Ashburn, VA 1-2 days per week.
- Proficiency in developing and maintaining modern web applications using React, Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, HTTP, and UI component libraries such as Kendo UI.
- Working knowledge of Java and related frameworks, including Spring and Spring Boot.
- Familiarity with modern application development technologies, including Java 17, Spring Boot, React, state management libraries, Hibernate or other ORM frameworks, PostgreSQL, and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Harness, Bamboo, or similar platforms.
- Experience developing responsive, accessible, and mobile-first web applications.
- Experience building applications ranging from customer-facing products to internal business applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an Agile software development environment.
- Strong understanding of user-centered design principles while balancing business and technical requirements.
- Working knowledge of design and prototyping tools such as Figma, Axure, Sketch, Adobe XD, or InVision.
- Ability to use data, user feedback, and qualitative and quantitative testing methods to validate design and development decisions.
- Ability to stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and customer needs to drive continuous product improvement.
- Strong collaboration skills with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and customers to deliver effective solutions.
- Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and willingness to champion innovative ideas and continuous improvement.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, highly accountable, and team-oriented with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently when needed.
Preferred Skills:
- Design Thinking certifications such as those offered through IDEO, Stanford, Cornell, MIT or a host of other organizations.
- Proven experience designing for web accessibility (Section 508 standards).
- Experience with information architecture.
- Ability and interest in educating others on user-centered design best practices.
- Advanced understanding of Lean processes, and Agile principles.
