The Design Automation Engineer II is responsible for supporting the design, development, programming, testing, and implementation of automated manufacturing equipment and control systems. This role contributes to PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, robotics, machine vision integration, and mechanical design to improve manufacturing processes and equipment performance. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to support automation projects while ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement small-scale automated equipment and manufacturing systems.
  • Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC applications and control systems.
  • Assist in the development and support of SCADA and HMI applications.
  • Support robotic automation projects, including system integration and troubleshooting.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot machine vision systems.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and electrical wiring schematics.
  • Perform application testing in Windows and Linux desktop environments.
  • Support equipment commissioning, startup, validation, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to improve automation processes.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, engineering drawings, and project records.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, engineering standards, and quality requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.


Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Experience
  • 2–5 years of experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or manufacturing automation.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment and control systems.
  • Experience in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and automation testing.
  • Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments.
Technical Skills (Must Have)
  • 2+ years of direct application testing experience in Windows or Linux desktop environments.
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Development of PLC applications.
  • Development of SCADA applications.
  • Development of HMI applications.
  • 3D CAD design (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent).
  • Ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment.
Preferred Experience
  • Siemens PLC programming.
  • Allen-Bradley (Rockwell) PLC programming.
  • Cognex or Keyence vision systems.
  • FANUC or ABB robotics.
  • Equipment commissioning and startup.
  • Machine design and automation integration.
