About Mach Industries

Founded in 2023, Mach Industries is a rapidly growing defense technology company focused on developing next-generation autonomous defense platforms. At the core of our mission is the commitment to delivering scalable, decentralized defense systems that enhance the strategic capabilities of the United States and its allies. With a workforce of approximately 350 employees, we operate with startup agility and ambition.

Our vision is to redefine the future of warfare through cutting-edge manufacturing, innovation at speed, and unwavering focus on national security. We are dedicated to solving the next generation of warfare with lethal systems that deter kinetic conflict and protect global security.

The Role

Mach Industries is seeking a Metrology Engineer to execute and improve dimensional inspection methods that provide reliable evidence for engineering, manufacturing, supplier, and quality decisions. You will operate coordinate measuring machines and 3D inspection systems, create inspection programs and reports, and define which measurement method is appropriate for each feature and tolerance. This role spans Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, Quality Systems, and Operations. The work is hands-on and requires regular engagement with CMMs, portable measurement systems, point clouds, inspection fixtures, drawings, and hardware in Huntington Beach. You will build up efforts to design a framework to bring in metrology and quality tools early in the design phase and with suppliers as we scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform dimensional inspections using CMMs, portable measurement systems, 3D scanning, and other metrology equipment for development, production, and supplier hardware.

  • Create inspection programs, measurement plans, alignments, reports, and fixtures from engineering drawings, models, specifications, and GD&T requirements.

  • Use PolyWorks, Verisurf, or comparable metrology software to compare measured data to nominal geometry, evaluate features, and communicate results.

  • Select measurement tools and methods based on feature type, tolerance, geometry, accessibility, material, surface condition, required uncertainty, and intended use.

  • Develop and maintain a metrology manual that defines measurement methods, equipment-selection guidance, inspection practices, reporting expectations, and feature-specific examples.

  • Conduct measurement system analysis, including Gage R&R, repeatability, reproducibility, bias, stability, and method-validation activities.

  • Support source, receiving, in-process, final, first article, and nonconformance inspections by producing accurate records and clear technical reports.

  • Identify measurement limitations, equipment issues, fixture risks, and data-quality concerns before results are used to make product or process decisions.

  • Train technical users on inspection methods, measurement-system use, data interpretation, and the appropriate application of metrology tools.

  • Introduce the use of risk tools such as FMEA to metrology and coordinate to link to production process to ensure appropriate controls

  • Up to 50% travel

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors or higher degree in an engineering discipline, or equivalent years of experience

  • Relevant hands-on experience in dimensional inspection, metrology, quality operations, manufacturing inspection, or a related hardware environment; a degree is not required.

  • Experience operating CMMs, portable coordinate measurement systems, 3D scanners, or comparable dimensional-inspection equipment.

  • Experience creating inspection programs, measurement plans, alignments, and reports from engineering drawings, models, and GD&T.

  • Experience using PolyWorks, Verisurf, or comparable CMM, scanning, point-cloud, or dimensional-inspection software.

  • Experience with MSA, Gage R&R, measurement uncertainty, repeatability, reproducibility, or inspection-method validation.

  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and select practical measurement methods that produce reliable, decision-ready evidence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting aerospace, defense, propulsion, automotive, medical, or other high-reliability hardware.

  • Experience with PC-DMIS, CALYPSO, CMM Manager, PolyWorks Inspector, Verisurf, FARO, or comparable metrology platforms.

  • Experience developing measurement procedures, metrology standards, equipment-selection matrices, or technician training materials.

  • Knowledge of ISO 17025, AS9100, NIST traceability, calibration requirements, or other regulated measurement practices.

  • Experience supporting prototype builds, supplier inspections, first article inspection, process capability, or corrective-action investigations.
