Job Responsibilities:
- Determines the appropriate release of medical records and prepares correspondence to respond to such requests.
- Assists in copying and distributing medical records in response to internal and external requests.
- Scans, indexes, locates, organizes, retrieves and delivers medical records promptly and facilitates accurate tracking assuring confidentiality of all records at all times.
- Sends tasks to providers for results verification of scanned documents.
- Trains and mentors junior staff members.
- Performs quality assurance checks on medical records.
- Requests medical records from other health care providers' offices when necessary.
- Opens and directs incoming mail.
- Answers and directs telephone inquiries.
- Follows and understands policies and procedures for medical records as defined by the organization.
- Understands applicable laws and regulations.
- Attends various meetings and professional development programs to maintain certification.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Education: High school graduate or GED
Experience: General clerical experience preferred with some exposure to medical terminology.
