Position Summary:

 

Under the direction of the Practice Manager, the Radiology Technician is responsible for performing general x-rays in addition to assisting the physicians) during fluoroscopy procedures and practices, sterile technique is used to prevent cross-contamination when necessary.  Performs various types of radiographs from all areas within the physician office setting.


Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Follow instructions from Physicians regarding which area of the patient’s body needs imaging.
  • Talk the patient through the procedure and answer questions.
  • Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.
  • Prepare patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Prevent unnecessary radiation exposure both to themselves and to the patient.
  • Follow correct techniques and procedures such as patient shielding
  • Maintain radiology supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating future needs and placing orders.
  • Ensuring operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
  • Maintaining production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures; developing radiographs; observing radiographic results; making necessary adjustments.
  • Documenting patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Contributing to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Contributes to and consistently applies Catholic Health policies, procedures, and benefits to all customers and/or employees without discrimination.
  • Minimizing radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.
  • Protecting patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols; following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart.
  • Maintaining safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Requirements:

 

Education:

  • Radiologic applicants must be graduates from an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT certification is required as well as current NY State license as a Registered Radiological Technologist or Registry eligible. 
  • Current BLS through the American Heart Association.

Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Experience:

  • At least one year of experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.


Salary Range

USD $53.42 - USD $53.42 /Hr.
